Balenciaga S/S 2000 Paris

One season before his breakthrough collection….
What I think is interesting when looking back at Nicolas’s body of work is to see how he has always interpreted the same eras in different ways.

It’s still sharp and precise in terms of tailoring but still very 80’s/70’s. I see some 80’s Versace…He was working at Callaghan at the time so I’m sure he was inspired by Gianni’s work for the brand somehow…
And it’s very interesting to see how he infused some Balenciaga details like the balloonesque volumes at the end. It’s all very subtle.

You cannot help but to think about Balenciaga SS2008 and Resort 2012 when looking at the top on Trish Goff.

Nicolas must really admire Gianni's work. His Vuitton is pretty much an ode to the 80's Versace (maybe a bit less with the recent shows). I wonder why Donatella refuses to reference that period.
