Balenciaga S/S 2021 Paris

A letdown. I really started to warm up to Demna's Balenciaga in the last few seasons, but this doesn't have the magic I began to expect.

What I think is detrimental to his collections is the styling. I've met people who looked superb in his clothes, but they usually toned it down.

Without the extravagant runway set, his clothes are just... clothes.

And you know what? That's what I actually appreciate. My partner started wearing Balenciaga recently (very selected pieces, more on the elegant side), and it's actually nice how well done, comfortable, and easy to wear his clothes is while still maintaining a fashionable look.

Demna to me has become Kering’s answer to LVMH’s MGC.

You know what? That's an accurate comparison because Demna is quite merchandise-driven at Balenciaga. His collections are all a bit of a snoozefest but, then in stores, they are fabulous. They are more edited, fabrics are well-chosen, etc. He is really focused on customers I guess.

I have appreciated Demna’s collections in the past, never entirely, but this is a huge no.

and he’s aiming at Haute Couture now...

Apparently this is a pre-co, hence the more commercial, less experimental side ?

I am a big Balenciaga fan and a customer as well, and there are a few pieces that are desirable and quite special (that blazer whose lapel is a shirt collar is great idea for instance). But the whole collection seems a bit lazy, very déja-vu.

I miss Balenciaga being a statement brand with a clear new direction each season.
Maybe Demna Gvasalia doesn't feel like challenging his own world because of the huge commercial success the brand is having.

The casting is great:cool:. You meet haunting characters that you would never find in a Dior or Louis Vuitton show.

Commercial success has peaked a year ago. Last seasons were heavily discounted everywhere online (including the sneakers)

Moreover the runway collections had nothing to do with the commercial success - logo t-shirts and merchandising product were driving sales.

Maybe that’s why they show more commercial boring pieces as the runway show now? However I do not find any truly commercial or desirable products in this offering. Sneakers maybe.

Kering could very well close all Balenciaga shops around the world, and replace them with vending machines; because this is just another merchandising collection from Demna (I refuse to call this a fashion collection).

-"Insert coin...please select the item number you desire...your Balenciaga dress, thank you!"

What the f*ck was all that hot air Demna blabbered in about on all his “pandemic interviews” recently about new perspectives and values and considerations, blah blah blah. And then we get this??

What a miserable man. His addiction to ugly gives me a window into his soul.
