Balmain F/W 10.11 Paris

mikeijames, I really don't mean to sound rude and I apologize in advance if I do, but your constant efforts to convince everyone on this board that Balmain is in fact as genius as you perceive it to be are growing kind of tiresome at this point.

You can think that brocade is equal to the epitome of luxury and grandeur. I doubt everyone will agree with that, I certainly don't. You can think that making a pair of skinny pants out of brocade instead of denim and pairing it with a baroque sequined coat instead of a destroyed leather one is the most genius sartorial innovation since the bra, but it's just not that genius an idea and certainly isn't being done in a new way. You can think that changing the fabrics and the hackneyed "inspiration" automatically renders this collection completely distinct from all of the previous collections, but it's still just skinny jeans, shoulder pads and sparkly minidresses with a light dusting of a seasonal theme.

Obviously you see something exceptional in this label, and that's great, but stop trying to convince people that you're right in that because it is just your opinion.

^my opinion, no matter how powerful, does not sell clothes, fill editorial pages, outfit cover shoots, nor create the hysteria the fashion world has embarked upon in trying to re-create the feeling balmain evokes. if you choose to align yourself -- and no rudeness implied or intended here -- with those who hate this collection without even seeing it, it's your right. i choose to appreciate this collection for exactly what it is: fashion.

i'm not trying to "convince" anyone: i simply speak for all of those people a little too afraid to be called stupid, trashy, and every other comment with which many posters feel so free to throw about in the name of "hating balmain." i don't call you any names because you don't like this collection but i've seen many lambasted for actually liking or purchasing balmain. again, if you choose to align yourself with those, it's your right; in a fashion forum, i do believe it's appropriate to defend the merits of a collection as we see them.

i, for one, do not see why this very traditional suit inspires outrage or why someone who buys it should be subject to such anger.

Absolutely LOVE the double-breasted, purple brocade blazer and the black brocade military coat.

"it's still just skinny jeans, shoulder pads and sparkly minidresses with a light dusting of a seasonal theme."

Exactly what I see too!:innocent: Anyways, I'd rather come here to ogle at Decarnin to be honest.B)

Thank you Spike for representing, because I was ready to go off the wall when I saw this late in the game. I ALWAYS check TFS to formulate my own opinion, before checking any website, as fashion is 1000000% subjective. And in the beginning of Decarnins reign, I actually enjoyed Balmain, and slowly began to realize, as many others did, that quite frankly, it was not going to get much better/different. And it hasn't. At all. If I wanted to dislike this collection, which I do, I could have simply looked at any other Balmain collection, because it all is regurgitated CRAP. Also, if you read my post accurately you would have seen that eventually, upon chance, I did see the collection. I would never seriously consider criticizing a collection w/out seeing it. Spike and every1 else said it all and I am so hot under the collar that I'm just going to leave this comment and move on...

I try to keep an open mind to all kinds of fashion, but once again Balmain has brought vulgarity to a new level. The price tags are pure irony!

Very rich and beautiful..
Yes we've seen it all before but its still so pretty
I didn't like the nylon looking gold dress, the matching jacket, furs and the animal print...

I do like most of the pieces but the ones I don't like, I REALLY don't like. That gold dress is pretty horrid. I really wish designers would stop using shoulder pads!

Just watched the show - there are a lot of seriously desireable pieces in this collection - the gold fringing on the sleeves I love and the roughly hewn edge of the gold dress makes it look like gold leaf (the fabric being the best part while the design isn't an effort).
In fact, there are many pieces that look like they've been coated in gold leaf; that pair of velvet/gold trousers
And that leather blazer

I think Anna's is feathers, not sure about Poly's

I'm quite surprised about alot of negative comments about this collection, but i loved it , most of those dresses looked so amazing and the shoulders still work for me even though it's repetitive ^_^.

just saw the video on balmain.com, and I think a lot of this is actually quite nice!!

I think Rihanna pulled this outfit off, she looked fierce.

harper's bazaar chose one of the gold dresses from this collection as the cover of their august subscribers' issue.

I actually like a few of 'em. The mini dresses in particular. But that's pretty much it...

while i think the spring/summer collection for 2011 will take the bloom off the rose of balmain momentarily, it's worth noting how much editorial coverage the fall/winter collection continues to receive. for a house that everyone wrote off three years ago as a flash in the pan, the proof is in the pudding.

A Sparkly Gold Balmain Dress Landed Many Major Covers This Season

The sparkly gold Balmain dress Anja Rubik wore in look 22 of the label's fall show has appeared on six major fall covers. Claudia Schiffer wore it on one of her 40 Zeit magazine covers for the 40th anniversary October issue, Anna Dello Russo wears it on the new fall issue of 10, and Natalia Vodianova wears it on the December issue of British Harper's Bazaar.

Cindy Crawford wears it on the cover of the October issue of Indian Vogue, Abbey Lee works it on the cover of German Vogue's August issue, and Toni Garrn models it on the cover of Spanish Vogue's November issue. Interestingly it hasn't had a strong showing on celebrities yet, though according to a rumor going around on the Fashion Spot, Anne Hathaway will wear "sparkly Balmain" on the cover of British Elle's December issue, so this dress has another chance at cover fame, though lots of Balmain stuff is sparkly so who knows? But the fact that the dress has appeared on so many covers on models (save Dello Russo, but she has a model's figure) perhaps says something about the brand, which is, let's be honest, ideal for hot, skinny, tall people who have lots of fabulous parties to go to and be sparkly at.
