Balmain Pre-Fall 2022 Paris

The first few looks are just remixes of his signatures for the house. But the real monstrosity of this collection is those pencil drawing prints. It's just so tacky and cheap.

The rest look like it's has been ghost-designed by Christophe Decarnin. I don't understand why would he need to do that because he's already built his codes for the house. He has been at Balmain for 10 years but somehow he just can't escape being Decarnin's assistant.

Also, the styling is a mess.

This is his best collection ever. Hands down.

The Frankenstein sweaters with the sort of crustaceous, parasitic looking pearls are kind of incredible.

It is LOL (…And that sloppy digital backdrop does no favour. These high-end brands need to stop with the sloppy digital backdrops.)

Separated as individual pieces, the craftsmanship is rather stunningly impressive. He’s consistently OTT, loud, gaudy, decadent, elitist and for a very rarified world— and I wouldn’t have him any other way. Fast-fashion can’t duplicate this artisanal high-end sh!t.

He could really wake and shake up the outlet snoozefest plaguing Chanel.

Ok Olivier! I see you!

This is a return to form and of course it reference's Decarnin who established these codes. It also is more restrained like Olivier's first collections at the house.

A very referential collection with not a lot of new things to show but feels a bit cooler and edgier as far as the silhouettes and styling go. Maybe he is getting better at editing although the neon could have been kept on the cutting room floor.

Part of the charm with Olivier is that his confidence shines through, no matter how good or terrible the offering is.

This look makes me think about "The Thing" 80s horror movie...in all its hideously deformed glory:

The cheapest background I’ve ever seen…kiddy shows have better effects!

The clothes are an affront to taste but I’m not even compelled to write something witty.

Clearly out of ideas, he has to keep remixing his own past collections. A big yikes also at this presentation, it looks abysmal.

Well, this is probably his best collection because it's actually focused, for once. But girl needs to calm down and edit. The cheap background isn't necessary.

some nice individual pieces, but the editing and styling is all over the place...it looks borderline luxury cheap....unlike others who say this is reminiscence of Decarnin or Demna for me this knocks on tacky Philipp Pleins door.
