Tokyo Goes Bananas

NEW YORK: Thursday, June 30, 2005
Gap Inc. yesterday announced its plans to unveil Japan’s first Banana Republic stores later this summer. The stores are located in two of the most significant shopping areas in Tokyo: Printemps Ginza and Roppongi Hills.

“Shopping in Tokyo is an art form, and Ginza and Roppongi Hills are both locations where our customers expect to find contemporary and high-quality fashion,” says Andrew Rolfe, President of Gap Inc.'s International Division and overseer of Banana Republic's expansion in Japan. “Ginza, like New York's Fifth Avenue, is simply one of the world's most prominent shopping districts. Roppongi Hills, which opened two years ago, has fast become a haven for Tokyo shopping culture.”

The Printemps Ginza location will open September 1, and the Roppongi Hills location two days later on September 3. A third location is scheduled to be announced this July, and is expected to open by 2006.
