Actually I probably won't get those patent blue Bapes...I'd rather get a pair of white Diors. Yeah that conveyor belt concept seems pretty cool.

Those multi colored camo hoodies are terrible...but for some reason people jock the hell out of it on Niketalk. The Bape camo in traditional, darker colors looks nice on army jackets though.

 Off topic, but did you see the BBC X Louis Vuitton sunglasses that Pharrell designed? Those are so out there it's ridiculous...it's like Urkel meets Studio 54.

Yeah no matter how much I have tried I dont like BAPE CAMO at all ha ha...

But yeah seriously if you change your mind...I have seen some pairs on ebay for about 160.00 that look really legit.. The sales guy is even out of Japan, and he's the only one that has skully's which makes it seem even more legit..

Peep the skully pic on the top I think his sellers name is on it..

No any pics of them BBC X Louis Vuitton sunglasses????

Have you seen BBC out in New York yet?? Can't say I like ICE CREAM AT ALL YET YUCK...

nah I haven't heard of any places that are selling BBC clothing...to be honest i don't really care any more.

don't have pics, but the BBC/LV sunglasses are basically giant, heavy looking frames like the ones stereotypical nerds wear in movies, except the color is red and the tints on the lens sex it up, giving it an 80's glam feel. Imagine Owen Wilson from Bottle Rocket dancing with Margaret Trudeau to Olivia Newton John's "Physical". alright man I think i'm going too far.

They have a conveyor belt system at B&H, this huge photography store here in NY. All of the stuff you've bought is packed up and given to you as you leave.:woot: I would love to shop for clothing at a store that has this set-up.

A Bathing Ape Swings Into New York
By Lauren DeCarlo

A Bathing Ape’s founder, Nigo, is rumored to be the richest designer in Tokyo.

NEW YORK — Nigo, the mastermind behind A Bathing Ape, the Japanese-based apparel and sneaker line, was in town this week to mark the opening of the first freestanding A Bathing Ape store in the U.S. Flanked by international camera crews, the eccentric designer was seated at a banquette on the boutique’s stark-white second floor, bundled in a leather jacket and knit cap. He sat quietly, with an interpreter at his side, occasionally letting a smile slip to reveal a mouthful of platinum-plated dentures.
The 3,000-square-foot minimalistic duplex store, which opened Sunday, is located at 91 Greene Street here. The front window houses a rotating conveyor belt of candy-colored sneakers. “We were considering opening the store in the Meatpacking District,” Nigo said through an interpreter, “but SoHo is where I came when I first started visiting New York, so it made sense to open here.”
Nigo, who lives in Tokyo, created A Bathing Ape (abbreviated as BAPE) 11 years ago. The popularity of the ape-logo label quickly spread through the underground culture in Japan and eventually made its way to the U.S. via graffiti and hip-hop artists in the know. To add to the underground/anti-mainstream allure, Nigo typically creates limited editions and quantities of his sneakers, Ts and hoodies, and is known to limit the number of purchases to one per customer.
At 33 years old, he is rumored to be the richest designer in Tokyo. There are fifteen BAPE stores, in Tokyo, Osaka and London.
“It’s just not cool if everyone is wearing the same style,” said Nigo of his limited editions, while customers browsed the racks of clothing on floors below. Apparel and accessories are housed on the first floor, and 24 pairs of sneakers are ensconced in well-lit glass cases on the second floor. Retail prices at the boutique range from $13 for a cell phone cleaner to $1,624 for a leather jacket.
The boutique houses a unisex collection of sneakers, T-shirts and hoodies, as well as A Bathing Ape toys, totes, pillows, scarves, hats and accessories such as iPod cases and wallets. The ape logo is inspired by the film “Planet of the Apes,” and Nigo boasts one of the world’s largest collections of memorabilia from the 1968 film.*

He was in Dub magazine (the car magazine) I believe, he has cars in glass cases at his place. Sounds pretty rich to me.

excerpt from ny times...

In Japan devoted Bape fans sometimes line up for hours to shop at Nigo's stores, which are unmarked and are intentionally made difficult to find, to buy clothes that he produces in carefully limited quantities. The feeling of exclusivity is heightened by Nigo's decree that Bape customers may purchase only one piece of any product, and that it must be in their size. "It's to help prevent people from selling the clothes on the black market," Nigo said in an interview through a translator early last week. But it is also a way to protect Bape from becoming a fast-burning fad. "I really don't want a lot of people wearing my clothes," he said.

He has relaxed the purchasing restrictions at his SoHo store, a two-story, million-dollar ode to minimalism that sells an edited assortment of sweatshirts, tees, floor pillows, accessories and limited edition toys. Judging from their prominent placement, it seems that Nigo is banking on the hope that his $180 Bape Sta sneakers, whose colors seem inspired by children's cereals, will be the big draw. The Bathing Ape line has long been popular with the international hipster set. And the colorful sneakers (which bear more than a passing resemblance to Nike Air Force Ones) began enjoying a bit of mainstream recognition last year, when rappers like Jay-Z, Cassidy and Pharrell started wearing them around town and in music videos.

"Everyone is feeling those shoes, white skater kids, the hip hop guys," said Clarence Nathan, the owner of Premium Goods, a specialty sneaker boutique in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, that has carried Bape Stas for nearly two years. "They have a universal appeal and they're selling like crazy." The cost of the shoe at the New York branch of Bathing Ape is significantly lower than the $275 to $300 that Premium Goods and other stores in the city have been charging (though higher than the prices charged for imitations on many Web sites). Mr. Nathan predicts that shoe sales at the SoHo Bathing Ape will be brisk, so brisk that he plans to stop carrying the line himself. The mystique that Nigo has cultivated around his brand has only been deepened by his reclusive nature. It is only after much prodding that he offers up his birth name, Tomoaki Nagao, and still one can't quite be sure if he is being entirely truthful.

I think maybe its almost dead. The last time i saw someone in a Bathing Ape piece was at a n.e.r.d concert on Mr. Pharrell and Shay around a year ago ...

BAPE has been around for 11 years and just opend thier first U.S. store this week...

How can it be dead already??

:D

it wasn't pharrel originally.

it was the beastie boys. they were on the bape tip back in 1995, which is probably one of the reasons they started up the new york streetlabel x-large... which also uses an ape in its logo. the beasties were big into bape and rocked it all the time- but it never caught on here- back then tees ran $100 too.

oh and nigo is definitely rich. he has a bunch of custom jewelry made by jacob and a huge collection of cars...

FYI...i found out that all his money comes from his family...

apparently he's a rich kid...:innocent:

another little tidbit i found out...

nigo and junya watanabe went to school together...and guess who is junya's financial backer?!?!...:innocent:

yep-it's only a rumour that rei kawakubo is backing him financially...it's really nigo...
rei only supports him creatively...

yeah its quite unfortunate. i really enjoyed the grand royal magazine... i wonder where all of mine went....

X-Large wasn't really creative ever. they just used the same logo shirt over and over and over.... the only thing i really wanted was their recently released fingerless gloves that had love and hate on the knuckles tattoo style.
