Bernhard Willhelm A/w 2004

by suzy menkes of IHT

Memories of Bernhard Willhelm's inventive Milan show for Capucci haunted his slight but striking Paris show. Held on a mound of garbage with fake flames licking at abandoned television sets among life's detritus, the clothes had that regressive nursery feel that has characterized Willhelm's work since he was a fashion student in Antwerp. But after Capucci's grown-up take on volume, it was disconcerting to see vast pants and oversize tops in graphic childish prints. But there were striking pieces such as a cape or hood (both strong trends) thickly embroidered in vivid blue green and orange. Backstage, the designer explained it was all about fatsos gorging on McDonalds. Obesity chic? It may never catch on.
.

well...at least there was a method to the "madness"...more like performance art than fashion though...which i'm all for...as long as you call it that :flower:

thx lena...that gave the show some perspective for me...i was confused...

american culture is taking a beating right now...we're tough though...we can take it:boxer: ...we're not all overweight and some of us really could lay off the mcdonald's..haha!! :P :innocent:

As rude as it sounds, its correct. I don't think he really meant it in that sense...maybe it was more about the grotesqueness of McD's and the people inhabit the joint all the time?

i think i'm going to have a nightmare tonight after seeing this... and all the other nights of my life

I agree. i think its more a comment on the state of teh wrld, than trying to poke fun.

why does one even bother wasting money making a collection like this?

i don't get it.

me neither :innocent:

and i really find him very very rude
not only regarding the 'fatsos' thing
(we have McDonalds and 'fatsos' in europe as well mind you)
but simply for the state of his work, this is a shame...

apart from his common batwing sleeves (give us a break)
his work for Cappucci is much better than this mess here
(i actually saw a brillinat Capucci skirt by BW the other day)

Some pieces (most towards the end of the collection and below) were creative. :woot: The rest? Nothing creative 4 yeard olds can't do? :innocent:  :yuk:
