Beyonce has a gorgeous voice and she certainly could have delivered a brilliant performance of that old Mahalia Jackson hymn. Unfortunately, I couldn't grasp the melody whatsoever, because Beyonce embellished literally every. single. word. with needless insufferable runs and vocal flourishes. Mahalia (and all the gospel-influenced greats that came after her, from Nina to Aretha to Whitney) all knew how to balance the restraint of an excellent vocal with the flourishes of melisma. It's like SPICE. Just a sprinkle here and there is all you need to get the desired effect. Beyonce (and many of the singers of her generation, unfortunately, from Christina Aguilera to Ariana Grande) sing like they're taking a whole big *** jar of cayenne and smothering the song with it. No discipline. No restraint. No melody. It's an overwrought style of singing that I find pretty insufferable, especially when delivered by vocalists with so much natural talent and beauty to their voices.

I do wish she would have performed something from her nominated album. I do think she over sang the song, it was hard to understand what the words were. While before in the mid 2000's she would over do it with the live runs, she's gotten so much better with her last 2-3 albums at toning it down and singing much more smoothly, last night was an exception. It sucks that she lost Album of the Year but knowing the Grammy patterns I'm not surprised, it's even more despicable she lost her genre album category, if she had something in that bag it was that one. She still has 20 Grammys under her belt, 2nd most for any woman and at the age of 33. She'll win it eventually.

She looked beautiful though I wish the styling and hair was different. The white Cavalli gown was my favorite, I wish we had pics of it without the cape. The Proenza Schouler gown in the red carpet was alright but I hated the fit, it made her look short and wider than she is. She could have gone with a true and tired Elie Saab that had the same silhouette. The black Balmain mini she wore afterwards made her look boxy as well.

Ugh I hate that wig with a passion! It looks slightly greasy, too long, and just way too cheap. I think some of the strippers I follow on IG has better wigs than that atrocity. It made her look almost depressed, I don't know how to explain it. She's Beyonce! Get a better wig!

I think the detailing on the dress is really pretty, but idk that it fit the theme, and I HATE the ponytail.

I hate try hard Beyonce. She's always going to be tacky but I don't know why she's become so desperate.

That look is atrocious, especially the hair colour matching her skin tone almost perfectly. However, I don't know what she's doing but her body is looking fantastic!

atrocious and desperate.

she rarely manages to look chic or sophisticated. i guess it's all part of her public persona.

She looks like a barbie-doll come to life: An android. It is very tacky, OTT and comical-- but it's also almost surreal in how perfectly doll-like she looks, like a Koons piece... If she's in on the joke of the tackiness of it all-- and I don't think so because she doesn't come off as that cleverly conceptual and subversive, then I actually like this.
