:woot: great spotting, Mette!. that's one of my all-time favorite combinations and it certainly flooded the NY shows this season.. Calvin Klein, Proenza and Obando used beautiful shades for this. Also loving the teal blouse with pleats at Azria.

It's such a classic and beautiful combination, I think...

Love it @ Proenza, VW, CK and Obando... :crush:

this is a favorite combination of mine. I am going to have to go back and look at Costello Tagliapetra. thanks for positng this trend Mettch, keen eyes!

lovely spotting mette..i love this too..

calvin klein + proenza are my favourites..

it's very hard to see the colours on my screen..
but i am fairly sure this is dark blue + black at modernist, no?..

Black and blue together is so classic and sophisticated - yet a little mysterious! Love it!

adore those modernist pictures are absolutely lovely. personally, i prefer this sort of combination with a really dark navy blue and black. and loveletter, i still know many people who consider black and blue/navy to be a huge faux pas but i still think it looks beautiful..

I'm glad that this is lasting a few seasons. It looks remarkable when done right.

Winter 2007, Burberry Prorsum did black and metallic blue and it was gorgeous - I used those colours over and over :)
So glad to see it has returned for this winter!

There are many outfits in this thread that I can't describe because I don't have the correct terminiology, and I'm not allowed to repost images, and there are so many pictures that it's too hard to describe the placement of the pictures. I'm supposed to know ALL about the designers instead of just knowing how it looks.

The worst one of these was an outfit that looked like someone was wearing red and yellow deflated foil baloons on their dress--one was near their right hip, and the other was near the left side of the model's chin. It looked ridiculous, but unfortunately, I don't know how to describe it in the right way so people will know what I'm talking about.

Most of the outfits I'm seeing in this thread have been very pleasant. Unfortunately, I don't have good enough terminology to add anything significant because of the rules of this forum.

I was once told not to mix blue and black. :ermm::angry:

and this person was right. black and blue is not an 'allowed' combinaison... i still believed it like 4-5yrs ago.... no idea where's this coming from, though....:doh:

anyway i love this combinaison...
but just wanted to add some of those blue are just not working with black...

and too : the first time i really saw black and blue together in a good way was on Helmut Lang catwalk FW 04... never paid attention to it before anyway...

What started the idea that blue and black -can't- go together? I think most of these outfits have looked fantastic.

^well always wondered.... guess it's more part of a tradition... i guess someone important died wearing this black+blue....
like you cannot wear green on a theater stage, because Moliere died wearing green....

I think that in order for the look to really stand out, it has to seem extremely intentional. The blue has to be bold enough to not look like "oops, I thought this was black, but it's actually navy" (like with socks!). Also, black & blue need to be the only colors in the outfit, ideally. I've seen it work with the introduction of grey into the palette, though, as well.
