I never understood how Blair's character even has money, let alone prestige. I mean, her mom is a fashion designer (but not established. Since we saw her looking to get buyers at the beginning of season 1) and her dad is a gay chef. Even her parents made loads of money in these professions (which I don't imagine they do since her dad doesn't even seem to work anymore), it certainly wouldn't be 'old' money. But anyway, this is not the topic for my rant

It's refreshing to see Blake as Serena in a bit of colour.

I think they want Blair's mother to be a 'society designer', sort of in the same ilk as Carolina Herrera. So perhaps it's Blair's grandparents (on either, or both sides) who have the money, and they're just living off the inheritance
