Bon Iver

hmmm...Wouldn't good winter in French be 'bon hiver', pronounced like bon iver though...I don't know.

Anyway, I'm loving Bon Iver lately. I found them a while back after coming across this collaboration with Lykke Li. So brilliant!

You're right, cause it's been noted before in articles about Bon Iver, that it's "good winter" in French, however, purposely spelled incorrectly.

And oh, haven't seen that video before, look forward to watching it later! Thanks for posting it! :flower:

Bon Iver releases live charity album

Bon Iver has released a recording of a charity show at mainman Justin Vernon's old high school in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Called 'A Decade With Duke', the album is a collaboration between Vernon and jazz ensemble Eau Claire Memorial Jazz 1.

Featuring songs from Bon Iver's critically acclaimed album 'For Emma, Forever Ago', such as 'Lump Sum' and 'For Emma', the album also sees Vernon performing jazz classics such as 'Lady Is A Tramp' and 'Bewitched'.

Vernon did the show to help raise money to send the jazz band to New York to take part in the Essentially Ellington competition, where they came third.

Released both physically and digitally, the CD is only available from Brickhouse Music, Morgan Music, and from the Volume One office in the Eau Claire area. For those outside of Wisconsin, a digital copy is available from various online retailers.

The tracklisting for 'A Decade With Duke' is as follows:

Essentially Ellington set:

'Wind Machine'
'Symphony In Riffs'
'Moon Over Cuba'
'Happy Go Lucky Local'
'Portrait of Louie Armstrong' (featuring Bruce Hering)
'Bye Bye Blackbird'

Justin Vernon set:

'Lump Sum'
'Rocks in My Bed' (featuring Addie Strei)
'Bewitched'
'Miss Otis Regrets'
'For Emma'
'Lady Is a Tramp'
'Since I Fell For You' (featuring Mike Noyce)
'Satisfied Mind'

i learned about Bon Iver from watching House  and i've been
in love with his sound ever since. amazing music, peaceful and gentle.

So we all know Justin Vernon is the biggest music genius of the 21st century, but Bon Iver's drummer Sean Carey has recently released a solo album that is pretty effing epic, too.

S. Carey - All We Grow

Beyond beautiful

And Justin Vernon has collaborated with Anaïs Mitchell on her album Hadestown, which was released earlier this year, and Justin is featured on 7 songs. Definitely worth checking out, too:

I want to see Bon Iver live sooo bad, but they're never in Europe, it seems.

^That's my favorite, too. Along with Roslyn (from the New Moon OST :ninja:)

It's amazing, isn't it?! My favorite song as of late. Seriously obsessed with all things Vernon at the moment.

I recently downloaded this Justin Vernon Comp torrent:
thepiratebay.org/torrent/5903426/Justin_Vernon_%28Bon_Iver%29_Comp
It's amazing, it has lots of his older stuff that I hadn't been able to find before. Lots of things still missing, unfortunately. But it's so impressive how one person can make so many beautiful songs in so little time. Love him <3

i listened to his tracks a few weeks ago and noticed the production similarities with Bon Iver; they use the same blending style among other things. and then i looked him up further and realized he was his drummer  very beautiful music gosh, i think i like his voice more than Justin's :ninja:

anyhow i'm listening again to For Emma, Forever Ago and i just realized that this has always been my go-to album whenever i'm feeling despondent. it's like an automatic chill pill, immediately calms and soothes me.. his music has always affected me this way, straight to the gut, then permeates all over. thankgod for his music seriously.

did anyone see him perform with Kanye at last night's Coachella stream :ninja: i've never favored his collabs with that person but i'm glad he showed up, even if it was only to add autotuned hollers to Kanye's set -_-

Yeah, I agree. For Emma, Forever Ago is such a timeless record, I always listen to it when I'm studying, calming down after a night out, before I go to sleep, etc. It's probably the album I listen to the most along with another one of Vernon's records, DeYarmond Edison's Silent Signs

I don't get why people are so outraged about his collaborations with Kanye. I'm not a big fan of Kanye either but I actually like his latest record, which I would never even have listened to if it wasn't for Vernon's contributions. I was happy he went on stage with Kanye at Coachella. I heard he made a guest appearance at The National's set, too. Have yet to see that one, though.

Ahhh, it's so close. I agree that For Emma, Forever Ago is timeless. It's one of few albums that I could listen to over and over again.

the new album has been leaked...
have you guys seen all the buzz about it?

I'm glad I already pre-ordered the album, makes me feel less guilty about listening to the leak  It's amazing

I can't express how amazing this album is. Justin Vernon, please marry me.

I'll wait for the album to be released, but as for "Calgary", it doesn't disappoint!

When exactly did Bon Iver go from being an indie band to being massive superstars anyway? I'm currently trying to get tickets to their show in either Dublin or Brussels and it's such a hassle, even worse than when KOL tickets went on sale. I haven't been able to get through yet.
I managed to get tickets for Cologne but Germany's so boring, I'd rather travel to Belgium or Dublin (for whatever reason Dublin would be the cheapest journey for me, too) for Bon Iver :P

Anyone else from Europe planning to see them live?
