Books On Make Up

I would recommend the book by Nars called "Make Up Your Mind"

I went to the shop and asked for it, it's completely sold out everywhere !
Oh well...I'll have to wait a few weeks to get it :(

No one will ever be able to touch Aucoin. He was a genius, because he was so genuine. Love "Making Faces" & have tried many of the looks. I was very saddened by his death and had hoped to meet him one day.

I would recommend the book by Nars called "Make Up Your Mind" and a book by 3 authors called only "Make Up Book" that has fabulous tips, great photos and a true fashion sense of make up wich i love! it´s in french though.

Here´s the link whre you can see some pics of the book. :flower:

http://www.lamartiniere.fr/editeurs/index.cfm?ed=3&isbn=2830707168

click where it says: "En Images"

I have to second the recommendation of Nars' "Makeup Your Mind." The shots are great, and feature the models bare-faced, then all made up. There's a sheet of vellum that overlays the made-up face so you know exactly where to put everything. And even though he uses all his own stuff, he gives you the general color range for all the products (ex. bronze nude lipstick) so you can substitute your own stuff.

I got my " Make up your mind " by Nars today and it's INCREDIBLE !!
It's very inspirational & I highly recommend it :buzz:

Bobbi Brown Teenage Beauty

and on eBay you can find the "Mac Beauty Bible". It's a CD for the computer used to train the employees and you can get a copy of it for super cheap (around $2.00 plus shipping)

Just to revive this tread! :D....

I just ordered Face Forward by Kevyn Aucoin, can´t wait for it to arrive, i bought Making Faces after reccomendations from this tread and totally love it!

i love "make up your mind" and "making faces". great, inspiring makeup art...no limits. one book that brings out so much anger in me is "Don't Go to the Makeup Counter Without Me," by some HAG named Paula. every woman in my family owns it, and i decided to read it when i was in bed sick. she states that women should not wear blue eyeshadow after the age of 30, and she hates NARS!! she said it's for NY club kids only!! Of course I am not going to pick up this piece of rubbish to quote her exactly, but once I read those few statements, I put it right back down in my grandmas trash. That's right, my grandma. no one under the age of 70 should find this book useful, and I think we all need to go into our aunts and grannies bookshelves and shred this-IMMEDIATELY. who is with me?

In my opinon you can never have too much beauty books.
Of all the makeup books that I've ever own Kevyn Aucoin's are my absolute favourites. His books are the biggest reason I wanna be a makeup artist.
Those books are like art and my feelings for his books are beyond love.
But I also love Paul Starr on Beauty on Beauty by Paul Starr
Makeup Makovers by Robert Jones
Makeup Your Mind by Francois Nars
Bobbi Brown Beauty Evolution and Bobbi Brown Teenage Beauty by Bobbi
Brown
The World's best kept beauty secrets by Diane Irons

Lipgloss&Cigs: I have thinking of buying that book before you mentioned it. But now I'm not sure. She seems very narrow-minded.
And I don't know if I would have much use for it.

I like Vogue Make-Up (by Juliet Cohen) very much, but I haven't read many others.

Jessica Pallingston wrote a book about Lipstick, there aren't really useful tipps (besides of some receipts for selfmade lipstick), but it's really fun to read
