Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst [/SIZE]Nebraskan songwriter
Conor Oberst and his rotating
Bright Eyes cast will continue their recent flurry of releases with Noise Floor, a rarities compilation that's due to hit stores on October 24 via Saddle Creek.
Noise Floor will feature singles, one-offs, covers, collaborations and previously unreleased tracks spanning from 1999 to 2003. It will be available on both CD and vinyl formats, with the latter featuring five extra songs.
Bright Eyes released three albums in 2005, the critical darlings I'm Wide Awake It's Morning and Digital Ash In A Digital Urn, as well as the live Motion Sickness.
Oberst and his current crew, featuring
Mike Mogis and
Nate Walcott, have just finished
touring and are holed up in Omaha working on the next Bright Eyes
full-length, which is scheduled for a spring 2007 release.
"We have a lot of ideas," Oberst recently told MTV News. "I write songs and Mike is great at setting up microphones to get specific sounds, and Nate is a great piano player and a great trumpet player, and he writes and arranges string parts, too.
"I bought a new house and we're building the studio there, to finish the record. Mike and I have connecting houses, with the studio in between. It's like a compound."
Unlike the most recent Bright Eyes outings, Oberst doesn't expect the songs on the new disc to be political. "I don't think there's going to be any more overtly political stuff," he said.
"I mean, obviously, we need to have some kind of change in the mid-term elections and in the next presidential election, but when I sing the songs now it's like shooting fish in a barrel. It's too easy."
