burda pattern magazine

I've been using Burda to make clothes for a while now, but I need some new editions... mine are about 3 years outdated!

Does anyone know where I could get a subscription in Canada? i tried amazon.com, but it's only good for the US. Help!

I have been buying this magazine off and on for a long time now. I used to get them at Chapters, but they stopped carrying them. You can subscribe directly to Burda but it was very expensive. A long time ago I sent an e-mail on the burda site. They responded with a price. I have found them recently at import stores like Dutch Delis. Sometimes they get them in dutch or english. As long as you don't need the instructions you can buy the dutch version. As an added bonus, they have yummy cookies there too

a little off topic - I bought some Burda patterns online recently - when I came to make them I found that I was a size 18. Now I've just had a baby but I a size 18.... I rechecked, double checked, got depressed about gaining so much weight, couldnt believe and rechecked the measurements all over again. I was still a size 18 (almost a 20........).

Figuring I had just gained a lot of weight due to the pregnancy as all the measurements added up I proceeded to make the first dress.

I completely didn't fit me. I had to alter it once I had sewn it together and it still hangs oddly. I really don't know where it all went wrong as I have again rechecked the measurements etc (making sure I was using cm's not inches and vice versa) and I am still a size 18 on Burdas measurements (although usually a 12 or 14, I've decided to create a size 13 for myself).

I'm really not sure what the moral of my story is but it was annoying to say the least. I hope you have better luck than I did!

Pattern dress sizes are normally two sizes larger than what you would wear in a store. For instance, if you are a 16 in a store than you would be an 18 in pattern sizes. I have learned from trial and error that patterns usually contain too much ease for my tastes. I like my clothes to be well fitted.
So now I look at actual finished measurements instead of size chart on back of envelope. You will find the finished measurements printed on the pattern piece usually. For a top, look at bust measurements on front, and for pants or skirt look at waist and hip on front. Hope this makes sense
