Buying an item that is too large - worth it?

I was wondering, would you still buy the items you wanted if the sizes left were a bit big on you (on a good sale price)? I think nowadays small sizes sell out very fast and you have to be lucky to get them on sale.

yes. I would wear it as oversized with a shorterjacket, skinny jeans and some boots. Love the look.

Well, when it comes to designer pieces I usually find it does not look right (on me) if it is bigger size than supposed, if I size up in say Marni I look like I'm drowning.

You can just tell that it's not the way a top is supposed to sit, but this is only with cetain items, items like tee's I don't mind being a bit loose.

I would (almost) never buy a jacket, shoes (of course, impossible to walk in) or jeans (i have one pair of drainpipes in 2-3 sizes bigger, but it works, as they become more straightleg-ish) in a bigger size. I think.

Yes I would but only for tops because you can layer it to fill it out more but for shoes and everything else, it just won't do it for me.

thanks for the replies. Ive decided to not buy them even if they are on sale because they look somewhat awkward except maybe for a skirt that I think I can wear on my hips

I always buy dresses a size or two sizes bigger especially if the shop has only one piece.
My tailor always takes them in to as how I like.

If it's something that could be easily styled as an "oversized" piece like a sweater or certain blouses/tops. . . or something that can be easily tailored, definitely.

It depends what it is. If it is something which the tailor can fix, it is ok, but I wouldn't buy a too large blazer just to use it as "oversize". You can easily distinguish between something which is meant to be oversize and something which is just too large.

I agree with what most people have said. If it is wearable or easily altered, then it wouldn't be a problem. I usually tend to buy 'wrong-sized' items in the sales as I prefer not to spend a large amount on something, then to have to take it apart and remake it. I actually have a growing pile of clothes in the front bedroom that need alterations and really need to get round to doing them.
