Céline Pre-Fall 2011

I can't help feeling that there's something almost downmarket about a lot of this, and some of it is just downright unappealing. I mean patchwork? Really??

Am i the only one who's getting a Prada-ish vibe from all of this??,, and im talking bout the ugly Prada, lol...
Nope.

I can definitely see the Prada vibe in the approach to famously "ugly" clothes and how they're both (Miuccia and Phoebe) adapting it to trends and sort of making it 'cool' again. Phoebe's stuff seems more calculated and less autobiographical than Miuccia, though, I think Phoebe does her homework of having very dedicated trend consultants and pushing the envelope that way (adapting it all to her vision), whereas Miuccia's choices seem more based on personal style and what she finds challenging and then she brings on her team of stylists/consultants. Of course I have no certainty on any of this, it's just an impression I've gotten over the years. :innocent:

Hell must have frozen over... because I don't like any of those shoes. Not a single pair.

Yeah, I literally shuddered when I saw the first shoe pic. And what's the deal with wedge sandals? Again?

To me this is the best collection Philo has dished out for Celine. I can't believe how much I like this. I'm a sucker for geometric shapes so this is sooo beautiful to me. The rigid shapes and the sharp edges leave me in awe. The holographic coat.... Wow.

hahah lol so true

Maybe its because the last runway collection has grown on me but I like a lot of this. I like Pheobe's mixture of funky, urban elements with the precise minimalism that she started at Celine with. Not everything works, but I like what she is going for.

I like the raw fur looks the most.

great as always ...
lately I have been dreaming alot about "Celine Homme" ,,, I want to be dressed by Phoebe Philo’s ,,, after every season that demand become more stronger ,, at least a jacket & a pair of shoes by Phoebe ..

I love where Philo has gone for this pre-fall collection. She always seems to have something new to put on the table. I like her consept and the new take on trousers. It has a vibe of an Old Hollywood glamour to it with the fox tails and long sleek black dresses. I want to be that girl in this collection.

I really like this collection! I'm not into the patchwork and the metallic pieces. Theres about 7 pictures that I really really love

Wow, intelligent but practical dressing. I like how I didn't instantly take to this collection immediately but took some time to appreciate it. In most cases, that's a better gauge of quality.

I like how different it looks from anything we've seen in a while.. she's definitely pushing new trends, I'm not sure I'm a fan of most of them but I find it so refreshing and interesting to examine.

Exactly. I love how Phoebe is actually bucking the 70s silhouette which seems to be gaining some traction. And the clothes really look much better in motion and up close. The detailing is always exquisite. This is probably a poor way of viewing them.

You know, when you look at a Celine collection, it's so clear even if some individual pieces aren't for everyone, undergirding everything is a point of view that is expressed through the actual construction of clothes, as opposed to the styling, as with so many designers. Her shows are a step beyond many of the ones you see these days, and it's no wonder Celine bent over backwards to make bringing her on board possible. Her work is easily on the level of the best of her generation -- Maier, Ghesquiere, perhaps some older designers. And it makes you ponder what's so special about the designers lauded today, who for the most part are merely good at putting barely exceptional pieces together.

I couldn't have said it better myself :)

Those silver pants just asaulted my eyes!!!!!

I don't get the point here. There are some really good silhouettes : leopard coat with red sweater and red socks combo/ the leather top+ leopard skirt/ the withe turtleneck/ the V-neck floor lenght dress or that patchwork parka.
But there are also, a lot of misses, and because they're done with such fabrics, its the only thing you can see. I don't get all those flashy-lamed fabrics, the lack of connection between a lot of the looks or the frumpy kind of tailoring.
She was obviously very inspired for this Pre-Fall season, but this is ther perfect exemple of when Too Much is Too Much.

Thanks MMA for posting the photos!

The mini dresses are so covetable! I'm especially in love with the plaid one.

I think this collection is pretty stunning if we ignore all the denim/loden/felt patchwork pieces.

The camouflage-esque patchwork coat is really growing on me the more i look through these; just an amazingly made piece, and while i've seen abstracted camo before, I'm not sure I've seen something made exactly like this. Also, I don't understand how anyone could possibly claim that patchwork (or any other method of piecing fabric together) is inherently either upmarket or down. Especially when so many fashion designers have used something like it in the past decade -- Miuccia and Raf Simons instantly come to mind.

those shoes are seriously ugly. some of the pieces are nice but to me,this is her worst collection :(

As someone said earlier, there is so much to depth to this collection that there is a lot to discover :) It's the same kind of clean silhouette that's been present throughout her work for Celine, but it almost seems as if she's trying to curtail the tendency towards equating neatness with slimness by using patchwork and animal prints, plaid, contrasting textures, and volume in the coats. I wish there were more detail shots!
