SSSSSMOKIN'! San Diego-born Diaz proved a success with critics and comedy fans alike in her very first role, opposite Jim Carrey in 1994's The Mask

THE WEDDING ZINGER As bubbly bride Kimmy in My Best Friend's Wedding (1997), Diaz charms everyone, even jealous Julia Roberts. Within five years, she caught up with Roberts and became the only other actress who can command $20 million per picture

DIPPITY-DON'T Diaz in the Something About Mary scene that probably, um, sticks with fans most

HOWDY DOWDY Cameron who?!? Diaz de-glammed for 1999's Being John Malkovich, in which she played a plain-Jane wife who inhabits the title actor's body

POLKA FACES Diaz, Drew Barrymore (at left), and Lucy Liu go undercover in the 2000 action comedy hit Charlie's Angels. Unfortunately, moviegoers and critics found the 2003 sequel Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle less than heavenly

FACE OFF Critics had mixed feelings about 2001's Vanilla Sky, but the actress earned some of the best reviews of her career for her role as a needy, volatile woman with a fatal attraction to Tom Cruise

DANCERS IN THE DARK Diaz told EW that her role as pickpocket Jenny Everdeane (opposite Leonardo DiCaprio) in Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York (2002) marked the pinnacle of her career

THE PRINCESS BRIDE Cameron Diaz shows she's Hollywood royalty at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival premiere of Shrek 2, in which her ogre princess, Fiona, takes new hubby Shrek home to meet the folks

CRUEL 'SHOES' As a party gal who has nothing in common with frumpy sis Toni Collette except a fondness for fancy footwear and a brassy grandmother (Shirley MacLaine), Diaz suffered a rare box-office misfire with 2005's In Her Shoes

LIFE SWAP In 2006's The Holiday, Cameron Diaz trades homes with Kate Winslet; Cam gets England and Jude Law, while Kate gets California and Jack Black. Sounds like Diaz gets the better end of the deal
