Breaking up with a partner is painful at the best of times, but when you find yourself subjected to cruel taunts and death threats, it’s even harder.
It’s something Caroline Flack knows only too well, but the slurs aimed at her weren’t from her ex-boyfriend Harry Styles, but the legions of obsessive teenage fans that idolise his band, One Direction.
However, in a new interview, the pretty brunette is adamant that while the experience was traumatic, she has learned from it.
Thigh boys: Caroline Flack shows that with a little help from a stylist she can pull off a sophisticated look
She told Look magazine: 'I wouldn’t edit anything out of my life. I learnt the hard way that the easiest thing is to keep it to myself.
'With the whole Harry situation, about 95% of what was written was false. I didn’t really know where to begin. But I’ve developed thicker skin and become more hardened to it. I don’t get as upset as I used to, but I’m still human.'
The 14-year age gap between Caroline, 32, and her TV talent show beau was a source of national outrage, with people labelling the petite presenter a cradle snatcher when details of their relationship emerged.

Even though things between them came to an end in January this year, Caroline is still criticised for dating a much younger man.

Along with continuous hate campaigns from hormonal teenagers on Twitter, just last week a One Direction fanzine was revealed to have printed an article mocking her age, looks and relationship status.
She said: 'I’m surprised – it’s tough. I didn’t kill someone, I just went out with someone younger. But there have been more positive reactions than negative ones.'
Thankfully Caroline could rely on the support of her friends to get her through the controversial aftermath of the relationship.
'I think girls are quite good at handling break-ups because we deal with it straight away and it makes us stronger. Friends are very important; you’ve got to get up and go out. You just have to remember it does heal, you do move on and meet other people.'
Harry has since been building on his lothario reputation by romancing a string of women, including married radio presenter Lucy Horobin.
It is claimed that his fling with the Key 103 host wrecked her marriage.
Meanwhile, despite being linked to Rizzle Kicks' Jordan and TOWIE's Joey Essex, Caroline says she is yet to meet Mr. Right.
'I’m single, happy and dating. I’m not looking for anything, just having fun and if I find a connection with someone then I’ll take it from there,' she says.
The full interview with Caroline appears in this week's Look magazine, out now.
