that's horrible! hope she'll be fine.
news.yahoo.comSYDNEY (AFP) – Australian Oscar winner and theatre director Cate Blanchett was "absolutely fine" after suffering a head injury on Wednesday when she was hit by a prop during a live performance, reports said.
The incident occurred during "A Streetcar Named Desire" at The Sydney Theatre Company, the Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported.
The theatre's spokesman Tim McKeough told AAP the actress was hit by a radio prop, forcing the performance to be cancelled and the audience cleared.
"There was a minor incident on stage that unfortunately did injure Cate," he said.
A member of the audience told Macquarie Radio network it soon became clear the incident wasn't part of the play.
"She had blood streaming down the back of her head and blood on the back of her neck," she said.
McKeough denied reports the radio prop had been thrown at her.
"That is not correct. There is no point in the show in which the radio is thrown at her," he told AAP. "There was a moment when another actor lifted the prop above his head and she somehow sustained a minor blow to the head."
Blanchett was confident she would be back on stage on Thursday night, he added.
people.comCate Blanchett was struck with a prop during a fight scene in a preview performance of A Streetcar Named Desire in Sydney, Australia, Tuesday night, and suffered a head injury.
The 40-year-old actress, who plays deluded Southern belle Blanche DuBois, was left bleeding from the head and on all fours after an actor playing Stanley Kowalski accidentally struck her in the head with a '60s-style radio. Blanchett went on with the show, but had to stop when she realized she was injured.
Audience members said Blanchett continued to act in the scene, but she had blood on her head and on her neck, Agence France-Presse reports. The theater's house lights were turned on and the audience was asked to leave the building.
The incident forced organizers to cancel the show at the Sydney Theatre, but a spokesman for the theater later said "Cate's just fine." Tonight's show is expected to go on as planned.
The production, with Blanchett in the same role, is scheduled to come to Washington, D.C., in October, and Brooklyn, N.Y., in November.

Rachel is portraying Blanche in a different production at the Donmar Warehouse in London and Cate is portraying Blanche at the The Sydney Theatre in Australia.wow, she still acted 30 minutes even tough there were blood all over her. she is brave but i still think it is more important to take care of yourself first.

30 seconds - not minutes.

the little pop of colour on the glasses is cool too.. she seems to have such an intuitive sense of what works when it comes to fashion. i love that both her and rachel are portraying blanche in two different productions..
.. two of my favourite actresses, they remind me of one another with their poise and genuine warmth.Thank god! she is fine...and stylish.![]()
