Catherine Zeta-Jones

Especially considering that's what she started out as - a singer and dancer on stage.

Her life has really been a two-part story, and people in the US have only seen the second chapter, where she became a huge success. But before that, there was a lot of hard work - and frequent failure - which is why I liked seeing her triumph in the end.

And not only has she got the looks, she has performing talent and the ability to get on really well with the people she works with, so success would have come in some form, regardless of who she married.

I really miss her on the red carpet. She has such a great sense of style when it comes about glamour.

There is something to be said about old-style glamour worn by someone who can carry it off.

I read that she thought by the age of 40, her movie career would be over, so she tried to squeeze as much work and personal achievement into the years beforehand - but I hope we haven't seen the end of her, now that she is almost 40. It's no time for retirement yet! If Kirk Douglas can still make public appearances, the rest of the family shouldn't be shirking.

:flower: And Michael looks pretty good, and a lot more Gordon Gekko-like again- the new Wall Street movie is starting to film in September, I can't wait!! :woot:
Bad news for you. It was just announced that Frank Langella is replacing Michael Douglas.

^I am sure it has to do with the tragedy of Michael's son. So awful I feel so bad for them.

Catherine's out and about, as reported in the Daily Mail (dailymail.co.uk):

Catherine Zeta-Jones slips on a sexy nightie top as she prepares to hit the big FOUR-0

17th September 2009

Catherine Zeta-Jones pulled off a stylish cream outfit yesterday as she teamed a racy negligee top with a smart suit.

The Chicago actress looked more temptress than virginal in the off-white outfit as she stepped out in New York. She matched the satin camisole top with a smart cream pencil skirt and short-sleeved jacket, which set off her flowing brunette hair to perfection.

The 39-year-old, originally from Swansea, Wales, is still looking youthful even as she prepares to turn 40 next week. The actress has moved to an apartment in New York from Bermuda while husband Michael Douglas pursues his film career.

Catherine is set to play a temptress in Sir Trevor Nunn's Broadway production of A Little Night Music. She takes the role of the adulteress Desiree, who sings the famous song Send In The Clowns.

Sir Trevor had originally hoped to cast Natasha Richardson and her mother Vanessa Redgrave in the main roles. Catherine was picked after Richardson's sudden death earlier this year. She died, aged 45, after falling while skiing.

Michael Douglas, 64, is currently promoting new film Solitary Man at the Toronto Film Festival. He said recently: 'I'm in a good place in my life now with Catherine and having two young children. So I do not get out that often to do stuff.'

She doesn't look like herself there. People commenting on the website were wondering if she could be pregnant again, because she was looking fuller in the face, with other contributors saying it must be surgery.

Did she did something to her face??? or she just looks a bit different....

I'd forgotten that they both share the same birthday (dailymail.co.uk):

Catherine Zeta-Jones turns 40 as Michael Douglas becomes pensioner at joint birthday celebration

26th September 2009

There's something of an age difference between them, but that didn't stop Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones from celebrating their birthdays together in New York last night.

Catherine, whose birthday falls on the same day as her husband's, was celebrating the big 4-0, though she looked at least a decade younger as the couple stepped out of their apartment building. The Oscar-winning actress was wearing an all-black ensemble that flaunted her tanned legs and slim frame.

The look was completed by platform Mary Jane heels and sunglasses, but let down by a strange choice of cap that was unlikely to do much in the way of hiding her identity.

Michael, who turned 65 yesterday, also looked rather fresh-faced despite his advancing years. Dressed in a Hawaiian-style shirt with his silver hair swept back, he looked relaxed, despite reaching the official age of retirement in the U.S.

The couple, who split their time between New York and Bermuda, were celebrating with a joint birthday dinner, and were to be joined by Catherine's parents Dai and Pat, who had flown in from Cardiff for the occasion. Guests were also believed to include Michael’s father, Kirk Douglas, 93, and friends Richard Gere and Danny DeVito.

Catherine is not the only A-lister to have celebrated the landmark birthday this year. Renee Zellweger, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston and Cate Blanchett also reached their forties over the past few months.

In an interview recently she said: 'I feel much younger than I am. When you are 10 or 20, 40 looks really old. When I was nearing 30 that seemed like a major milestone.

'When you live in Los Angeles you can't go anywhere without being critiqued — on the fact that you have gained weight or that you have got spots on your face. That's not the life I want. Deciding to live in beautiful Bermuda was the healthiest thing Michael and I ever did. Now that I have kids, that's what my life is about.'

The Welsh-born star, who is mother to Dylan, nine, and Carys, six, is set to make her Broadway debut later this year in Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music. Murder She Wrote actress Angela Lansbury will share top billing in the production which opens in December.

Honestly, to me her face looks puffy, not as slim. But she still looks amazing. I dont think white is her color. I so much prefer her in darker colors with her hair up.

^ That's a strange article, since Michael was on Letterman last week and said they bought a place in New York and are living there now since their kids can get a better education and so on...

It's probably fillers, Madonna looks the same way.

Catherine talks about how her age affects her on-screen work (dailymail.co.uk):

Catherine Zeta-Jones romps with younger man in new film The Rebound

At 40, Catherine Zeta-Jones has no intention of putting her sexy screen siren days behind her. In her upcoming movie The Rebound, she strips down to her bra as she gets to know her toyboy lover on the sofa. But the couple's moment of passion is interrupted when her eight-year-old son wakes up and walks into the sitting room.

Ahead of her 40th birthday last month, Miss Zeta-Jones said she knew the sexier roles she has been offered in the past would start to dwindle.

While she does play a mother-of-two in her new movie, her May to December romance means she still has a sex symbol status on screen. She said last year: 'I think it's a natural progression. I'm 38 years old and I'm going to play more mums than sex symbols. That's a gradual thing for me because I'm too old to play younger characters.'

Zeta-Jones hit the 40 milestone on September 25 - the same day her husband turned 65. But despite this, Miss Zeta-Jones said the passing of the years did not trouble her. She said: 'I feel much younger than I am. When you are 20, 40 looks really old. When I was nearing 30 that seemed like a major milestone.'
