CdG & Yohji Yamamoto : pre-1981

does anybody know where there are images of rei kawakubo's and yohji yamamoto's work before 1981? their debut paris shows that year were watershed moments in fashion but it would be interesting to see the evolution of their work up to that point.

oh no, i believe this is by artist Joseph Beuys^
he made a series of these felt suit + trouser looks
i've seen the same picture in a German book called Filz

yes looks like joseph beuys felt suit, 1970.

rei kawakubo began designing furniture in the early 80s, about 83 i think i read.

that's Atelier new place, they bought a beuys suit wow, the chair is rei's.

I know the Tate has one in their collection ...
and I know he did some multiples ...
BUT
is that a 'real' Beuys piece ?
or just a felt tailored suit and hung like Beuys ?

yep, it's the real thing. they bought some art for the new store including the Beuys suit and works by Hiroshi Sugimoto, Richard Serra and César Baldaccini, as well as a photo by August Sander.

ok finally found a piece of early yohji yamamoto... this top. old, old Y's label (it still said "a division of Y's company ltd"); before his revolutionary paris runway debut, before he started using "yohji yamamoto" as his label. in this garment i can see the stirrings of that watershed paris debut--it is very japanese (kimono-inspired) and also there is some asymmetry. i suspect this is from 1980 or 1981... on the eve of his first paris show.
