Chanel ‘No. 5' Fragrance 2020 : Marion Cotillard by Steven Meisel & Johan Renck

I mean she looks beautiful, but it’s not a very exciting picture. It looks flat. Too flat for Meisel.

Never before have I noticed that she's got a mole on her forehead, yet it's featured prominently in that image.

I could have forgiven them for airbrushing it out in this instance. By all means, keep your mole in real life - but if they're selling people overpriced perfume, the impression of bringing warts home for Christmas might not be what they want.

More from the print campaign, and still zero confirmation as to who's the photographer:

This looks all very cheesy, and not in a good way like a Jean Paul Goude perfume ad for Chanel.

i don't like it. chanel no. 5 in my imagination should be more classic, timeless, almost minimalist. this in contrary looks like a zuhair murad ad or a holiday version of the main campaign.

I see no Meisel magic in the photos.

It's very timeless and classic in a very 90's way. I kind of like it.
It sets Chanel apart. N5 is not a very "easy to wear" fragrance. Eau Premiere is much more my taste but I think Marion's styling reflects the mood of N5. It's rich, classic, slightly old fashion and conservative but not uptight. Marion here looks more herself than she has ever looked for Dior.

I find the commercial boring. it's less cheesy than the previous but considering that she dances, I expected more. I don't think that dress is great for dancing either.
It's the first Chanel fragrance campaign without Karl's clothes since 1983. Virginie could have made a bigger statement...

I like the set design and rich colours for Christmas, but it's a bit too J'adore for me. And this campaign will run for at least 2 years? Will get old really fast.

The mole is the star

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I cannot believe Meisel shoot this. It screams Testino for me even Leibovitz but not Meisel.
that said, it looks like a Chanel No 5 Christmas Special Edition and like @Benn98 two years of this will be soooo tiring... hopefully they’ll have additional shots for the future as sometimes they do.

it is cute but I expected a little more.

The more I look at these image the more I see Meisel in these. Like, usually you go "yeah, so Meisel", but with these I was like "so not him" and after 5-6 looks at them I am thinking "actually, still very Meisel".

It's festive, it's glamorous, there's a strong sense of magic from the video concept and just as I thought I would be, I'm very much a fan. Chanel's No.5 advertising campaigns always remind me of the warm festive season, shopping in crowded department stores and everything about this just screams festive glamour.

The print campaign image is flawless and I admire Virginie Viard's reinterpretation of the dress Gabrielle Chanel wore in the Cecil Beaton photograph from 1937, which is such a special touch.

I don't know what's bothering me with this, but somehow she doesn't capture my attention. It's as if she looks a little bit too... friendly? Very beautiful yes, but also a bit forgettable.

Shame they didn't credite the team behind it. Love this one.
