Chanel Pre-Fall 2011 Paris-Byzance

There's hardly a single piece I don't love! The silhouettes of the boots are so beautiful and the jewels remind me of the old 80s/90s campaigns.

Sooo I kinda didn't like the colleciton before but after I saw the video I like it more. I think I was able to visually see pieces in motion and well maybe my brain just works weird but I actually think I saw the story. It's very peculiar... my brain is, and so I'm not going to try to describe it. Here is the link for the video though and it is on the Chanel site. I just shortened it because I tweeted it and it's long and ugly... I like a bit of minimalism in my links.

I love his inspiration from this collection. It's absolutely gorgeous.

There are some pieces I like but the most from the collection is boring and disappointing.

After taken a second glance at this collection I must say that I like it a lot more. still some of the outfits may be too difficult for modern life, but there are certainly some nice and beautiful things to pick from this collection.

Likewise :p Thanks for posting that. Definitely more beautiful live and quite a few things to miss w/o it

I think they do the most amazing jewellery...

errmmm

this collection looks more couture than his latest couture collection...

I'm perturbed as to why people are saying this looks like couture... this does not resemble couture to me... in the least.

This collection makes use of opulent materials but the styling is quite bland. To me Karl has lost some of his designing magic or skill. Same cut on the dresses and jackets, same silhouette. The only thing changes from spring 2008 until now is fabric. Disappointing!

^ Totally agree with you.
Some outfits were beautiful, but in general this is a very old-fashioned collection. I don't feel Chanel is moving forward: 50 years ago young girls adored this brand - now it grows boring and tasteless with every season passed.

^ Would this be due to the endless waiting lists for so many of their items or the billions of dollars in sales?? ;)

I'm still head over heels for this collection. I just absolutely adore that look on Freja which consisted of a white/tweed button up with slouchy corduroys. So relaxed, yet so chic.

The good:
Of course, I cannot see all of the elements of craftsmanship, but on the surface this is a couture worthy collection.
As I stated earlier, I am impressed with how the Byzantine theme was incorporated into the Chanel look.
I really like the relaxed, bohemian luxury of some of the looks.
I liked the two or three men's looks featured.
 the jewel details on some of the looks.
 the styling, especially the crowns.
From what I can tell, the jewelry was good, maybe even fantabulous.

The not-so-good:
Some of the looks were schlumpy, shapeless, aging and dated, especially the ones that incorporated velvet and shiny satin.
Way too many looks, I think that the collection would have been better with forty to fifty looks, the collection needed to be more ruthlessly edited.
The video was awful, and I felt that way even before it prompted the creation of a thread about boring shows. It's primary redeeming value is that it showed some of the details of the clothes, especially the backs of the garments. Chanel needs to find the right balance between a Karl Lagerfeld film production and something that looks like it was shot by a palsied uncle, although admittedly a salon show is not as easy to film as a straight or roomier runway.
The show itself was not all that great either, again Chanel needs to find the right balance between lions, icebergs, the French Riviera and a bunch of listless kids shuffling around a salon. I have seen well-executed salon shows; it can be done.

All-in-all I give it a thumbs up, but it is an amazing couture collection trapped inside undisciplined editing and amateur presentation.

I can see Karl wanting the details in the outfit to be easy to see, but you are right- Coco's shows from that same salon were snooze-fests... (Why not Baptiste in a lions suit??? Oh- that's been done??)

Well I like the collection. Chanel is always very classical, some clothes were shapeless but in general is a nice collection.

i like some outfits but really, there are a couple of outfits screaming "GRANNY"
