Charlotte Gainsbourg

How old was Jane when she had Charlotte? Because she looks really really young in the old photos with her children?

Jane was 25 years old. She was born in 1946 and had Charlotte in 1971. Jane had Kate Barry when she was 21 (1967) and Lou Doillon when she was 36 (1982).

Air, Jarvis Cocker Guest on Charlotte Gainsbourg LP

Dave Maher reports:
Follow-ups can be tricky. Your fans want something familiar but not too familiar, and the critics want to hear you "stretching your creative limits" or some similarly overused phrase. So what do you do? You bring in the pros, of course.

Singer/actress/Serge Gainsbourg spawn Charlotte Gainsbourg has this formula down pat. Everyone may have forgotten her 1986 debut Charlotte Forever (or never really known it in the first place), but a recent Billboard story reports that the daughter of everyone's favorite creep will be collaborating with Air, Jarvis Cocker, and producer Nigel Godrich on her new album, 5:55.

Cocker and the Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon contribute lyrics, and David Campbell (aka Beck's dad) arranges strings on the album, which is scheduled for release August 28 in Europe and September 4 in the UK. A North American release date has not yet been scheduled.

Gainsbourg previously appeared on Badly Drawn Boy's 2002 album Have You Fed the Fish? and Madonna's Music (she's the French chick at the beginning of "What It Feels Like for a Girl").

Charlotte is truly one of the most unique and intriguing women on the planet today. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but maybe it has something to do with the courage to be fully human. I really can't imagine what the world would be like without people like her.

Wow. When I saw the title of this thread, the name reminded me of the name of the actress who's in Michael Gondry's upcoming "The Science of Sleep." And, it turns out she is... But, she looks so different from the photos I've seen her in. Looking back, I've seen her in "21 Grams" and she looks so much younger in "The Science of Sleep" photos...

Forever Charlotte and Yvan Attal. I hope 'Science' will make her more known in English speaking countries . Thanks for the photos

^love her dress. if a french-speaking someone could give us a little review on the article...i'd be more than thankful ^_^ :innocent:

- What inspires Nicolas the most for his collections are his relations with people.
- With his collections he "sent messages" to the people he was inspired by, and that's how he met Isabelle Huppert (in films by Chabrol). He ended up dressing her for a Chabrol movie.
- He says it's necessary to dress popular women because it's popular culture that influences fashion.
- He doesn't understand the concept of red carpet dresses.
- He never tells his friends to dress head-to-toe Balenciaga, because they'd look like clothes-racks. He likes them to mix pieces.
- When asked "Don't you mind when they go see for other designers?" he answered: "But they DO see others! And it's very good like that."
- The muses he chooses (Charlotte Gainsbourg, Françoise Hardy, Irina Lazareanu, Joanna Preiss) are all musicians. He chooses musicians because music reminds him of his childhood.
- He always drew, but not particularly fashion drawings. But instead of drawing cars, he drew women dressed in a futuristic way. (Ie: Marie-Antoinette)
- When he was a teen, people had mixed judgments about him. Some were harsh, some were part of his fan-club.
- When asked "You design clothes?" he answered: "I rather destroy clothes(laughs.) Destruction of my mother's wardrobe."
- His parents didn't stop him from his ambitions.
- When he arrived in Paris, he was obsessed with media and images. He really wanted to work for Jean Paul Gaultier- He got engaged at 18 by Gaultier's assistant.
- He doesn't consider himself of the "Paris Clique", as he doesn't compares himself to Gaultier or Lacroix.
- He does feel nervous during runway shows.

What Charlotte likes about Nicolas' designs is that you don't need to have big breasts or curves, his clothes will give those to you.
