Cheryl Cole has revealed rumours about her marriage reduced her husband Ashley to tears.
In a red hot interview Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole leaps to the defence of her love cheat husband.
And she speaks out about her feuds with Victoria Beckham and Lily Allen.
Cheryl says the strain of gossip about her marriage had pushed Chelsea defender Ashley, 29, to melting point.
She says: “He broke down to me about it all. He called me from the garage and said: ‘I feel sick. I’m on the cover of every magazine because apparently I’ve made you cry.’”
The pop idol, who insists she wants to stay with Ashley for the rest of their lifes, says rumours of a breakdown in their marriage enrage her.
They surfaced most recently when she appeared on The X Factor judging panel without her wedding ring.
But Cheryl, 26, says: “Do people really think I’m going to have an argument and take my ring off? It was a fashion statement more than a marriage statement. As my wedding ring is yellow it doesn’t go with everything.”
But the Fight For This Love singer does worry that her family will start to believe the gossip about her three-and-a-half year marriage.
She explains: “My family love Ashley but even people really close to me are starting to believe that there’s a rift between us.”
Cheryl says she has never had a one-night stand and has not once been tempted to cheat on Ashley, who was linked to two other women two years ago.
She says: “Ashley is totally the opposite of how he is perceived. People have this idea that he is flash, ignorant and disloyal – the ugliest traits a husband could have. But he’s not. He’s never rude, he’s never aggressive and will go out of his way to make other people happy. He’s shy and he’s cute, but there is no way of proving that to people.”
Cheryl also says her healthy public image is a myth and that she has the appetite “of a 6ft man”.
When she found fame on Popstars: The Rivals, Cheryl put on three stone and didn’t even know what carbohydrates were.
She says: “God knows why I have been slapped with the fashionista tag. I still have days all the time when I feel sh***y or I have cellulite. But Ashley will tell me I am gorgeous and I will feel all right.”
Cheryl also played down rumours of a feud with Posh Spice, 35. The stand-off between the pair began during Cheryl’s temporary split with Ashley after he allegedly cheated on her with a hairdresser in 2008.
She says: “I have a lot of respect for Victoria but I said something I shouldn’t have done once – when I was asked whether it was true Victoria had been telling me how to wear my hair after everything had happened with Ashley.
“Like I’d give a sh** what my hair looked like during that time. So I retaliated by saying I hadn’t heard from her.”
But the singer wasn’t so forgiving towards singer Lily, 24, saying she threw attempts at a reconciliation back in her face.
Cheryl says: “I gave her a hug and she said: ‘There is no beef.’ Then I hear she was in the press room taking the piss."
“I thought: ‘Do you know what? She’s a little girl, but I’m a 26-year-old woman. I’m not at school any more.’”
Cheryl also reveals the backlash from her fame almost feels like bullying.
She admits: “It’s a strong word to use, but when you have people on Twitter saying: ‘Look at her fat hanging out,’ or: ‘Look at her big nose,’ you feel people have forgotten you’re a human being.”
