How we laughed at
Absolutely Fabulous when fashionista Patsy's boss Magda said: "If the models get any younger, Pats, they'll be chucking foetuses down the catwalk."
But it was more disbelief than laughter yesterday when Spike laid eyes on the latest issue of
Harper's Bazaar, featuring 13-year-old Cronulla girl, Cheyenne Tozzi, above, billed as the new Elle Macpherson.
"When all 175cm of Cheyenne Tozzi walked into the
Bazaar office we were all amazed both by her Amazonian body and her professional attitude, which at 13 years of age is remarkable," editor Alison Veness-McGourty told readers.
Martin Walsh, who represents Tozzi at the model agency Chadwicks, told Spike that Cheyenne's looks were "like a sporting talent".
"You wouldn't tell a 13-year-old to stop playing soccer until he's 15 if he was showing great talent," said Walsh, a former model who began his career 23 years ago at 18. "I think we're much better off managing Cheyenne's career properly."
That means no lingerie ads for now, but Walsh says she will do swimwear aimed at young girls.
"Either me or her mother goes to her shoots. We often remind the make-up artists, photographers and crews that she is still a 13-year-old girl despite how she looks. School is very important to Cheyenne and we're encouraging that ... there's not much use for dumb models these days."
