Chicago shopping

^^ Is the Saks men's store any better? I've never had time to go there on my vacations.

Also, what's Barneys carrying this season? (I'm interested in Dior Homme/Prada/Balenciaga/Lanvin from them mostly) Any chance they have these shoes?

I made a map of the designer boutiques in chicago- (Google Maps)
I made this earlier this year for when I went to chicago

SO if anyone's taking a trip to the windy city, they could save this to their computer and print it out!

Barneys has all that, well the Prada is just Prada Sport, but the Prada shop is right across the street if you want more. Other designers they carry that you might like are Miu Miu, Margiela, Dries, and Jil Sander. I don't know about the shoes but I wouldn't bet on it, the Chicago store has a pretty limited men's shoe selection.

The Saks Mens store has gotten better over the last few seasons but it's not as good as Barneys. It's worth a trip if you're already here though, or if you happen to want Galliano or Dsquared.

You're from Iowa... why exactly are you interested in Lanvin and Balenciaga?

Um, I seem to have missed something. What does being from Iowa have to do with interest in designers?

Hmm... it might have something to do with the fact that those brands are slightly out of place in that area of the country; I doubt many residents of The Bishop's Avenue ask where they can cop the latest Fubu sweats in Slough.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I just can't picture the Tinker children decked out in glitter jeans and star print button downs. It was only a question!

ok, moving on back to shopping in Chicago.......

Are there any boutiques or resale shops within the city that people particulary like??

I recently went to one on N. Lincoln that was voted the most friendly resale shop in Chicago. The lady was very very nice. They had some nice things and if I had the time to go through everything I would go back....the name escapes me now...

Umm...I really don't know how to answer that? The internet really has made it possible to follow high fashion from anywhere in the world...even Iowa. But actually, other than Chicago, Iowa and Illinois really don't seem too much different.

But on a more on-topic note, The J. Mendel boutique opened, right? Who's been there? How is it?

yea its open. Ive been there and its really nice! I dont like the fact that the SA's are really snotty. They do have EXPENSIVE furs just sitting around. Like a $35,000 chinchilla coat on the rack and a fur shawl for $9,500. Its a VERY small store, like everything is in 1 room, but I guess it serves the purpose.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who read the Iowa comment as being snotty. A pity some people still haven't learned tact.

Anyway, I made it out to Chicago the other day and pretty much had fabulous service everywhere I went. I'd especially recommend Kathy at Chanel and Christine at YSL. The attitude of the SA's can really make or break a shopping trip. I didn't go into J. Mendel, though--I was kind of put off by the mannequin-looking guy in a suit by the front door that was glaring daggers at everyone that walked by. Way to scare off customers.

YES! I agree completely on the J.Mendel thing. They have really big attitudes there, well its like a snotty vibe. Its a "if you dont have a birkin then stay away" kinda attitude haha. i will never go in there again....

Stupid post. Sorry, but... stupid post.

Any good sales lately or must see stores? Are there are good stores in Lincoln Park or Wicker Park? After a while, shopping at the same stores doesn't seem as exciting anymore...

How I miss Chicago! I moved down to Tallahassee, Florida two weeks ago and totally miss all of the little boutiques.

One of my favorite spots was the Fashion Tomato... near my old apartment at Belmont and Clark. :(
