Chicago shopping

No, but I do love that name! Any new news about the Marc Jacobs yet? It's already July.

I just went to Akira in Bucktown..niiiice!

Oooh I went pass that the other day. Arent there two? Also has anyone stopped by Solemates Chicago yet? They just opened and they're an amazing retro, 80's consignment shop. They have many cool/hip sneakers and many rare Nike's. They also have clothing...some vintage 80's stuff and Cheap Monday jeans. For the guys, expect some Umbro by Kim Jones in there for the fall! :D They're on 2708 N. Halsted.

Does it have shoes and clothes? Is it bigger than the one on Clark in Lincoln park?

I have never been to the Akira in Lincoln Park actually, but the Bucktown store is scattered down North Ave. WOmen's Clothing is at 1814 W North, WOmen's Footwear at 1849 W North, Details (accessories i assume) at 1904 W North and Men's clothing at 1920 W North.

When I was in a couple weeks ago they were having a buy one get one free sale in which I got an Anna Sui top and an Akira dress for like $45 total.

For those who know Chicago well, I need some advice!

I'm visiting Chicago in a few days, and I'm not sure which shopping districts I should visit. I'm not looking to shop huge designer brands like Louis Vuitton or Burberry (I can go to the ones near my town). Can you suggest me some shopping areas/streets that are good quality, trendy, but not completely unaffordable? I mean, I love window shopping but I also love bringing home stuff. :p

Lincoln Park is great, and Wicker park is a really trendy area.

Thanks for the suggestions! I hope I enjoy my time there! Anywhere else worth seeing? (shopping-wise or not.)

What days will you be here? There could possibly be some events that you could be directed to depending on when you are here.

I could give you the names of some of the better venues to see live bands, if you're into that? Other than that, I'd look into the museum campus (Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, and the Field Museum are all close by) or at least the Art Institute, which is right by Millenium Park, so you can knock those two out.

June gloom: I was planning to go to the Art Institute for sure, and perhaps some museums. That'd be great if you could suggest me some venues!

Shoegal: I will be there from July 29th to Aug 4th. I know that Lolapalooza is on the weekend, so I might drop by to catch a band or two.

I see quite a few great recommendations. ;)

On top of that, I would recommend hanging around Lakeview & Roscoe Village since I think it has some good shopping places and hang out spots. I also think that Chinatown, downtown Chicago and the Museum Campus are worthwhile places to visit when you're in town.

Lolla would be fun, but see if you can swing by the Metro and/or the Double Door for live music. Those are two of my favorite venues.

If you're into the bar or club scene, I would recommend browsing Metromix because it's a great guide to restaurants, entertainment and the nightlife. :flower:

If you're flying in, check the airport newsstands and see if they have an issue of Time Out Chicago - that'll have the concerts for the week as well as events going on in the city. As for clubs, I have to second the Metro, that's one of my favorites. Schubas is another great venue, very small and intimate. http://chicago.ohmyrockness.com also has a lot of shows listed on the website!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll defintely check them out if I have the chance.

Last minute question: When visiting the Wicker Park and Lincoln Park areas, should I take the car or public transit? Is parking easy to find in that area and is it expensive?
