I finally found a link to Fashion Week 2007 in China. I don't think these designers have been posted and I wonder what everyone thinks, please. :flower: http://www.china.org.cn/english/features/cfwc/203796.htm

I ooh'd and aah'd over Sun Xiuqin Minorities' Costumes because I love ikat and hints of cultural traditions in contemporary clothing: http://www.china.org.cn/english/features/cfwc/204285.htm.

I also really liked the colors, cut and line of Liu Wei's work: http://www.china.org.cn/english/features/cfwc/204118.htm.

I wish there was more clothing for men but I can't search in foreign characters, very frustrating since I'm so curious. I did find this interesting article on a few designers in China since 1960 or so: http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/hsc/evrev/chinese_contemporary_designers.htm

SomethingElse... Thanks for sharing.
I really like all the links.
It seems alot of talk concerning Chinese fashion has to do about traditional elements vs. modern or more international trends...
These designers I thought have done an amazing job staying true to the Chinese aesthetic, bringing out traditional elements but using them in more modern ways.
I personaly really like the cut of alot of Chinese designers. And I cant help but watch and see what does happen fashion wise as China connects more and more with the west....
the colors are beautiful, and I enjoyed the island, or tropical patterns, but again using the patterns in a fresh new way.

Classy, sexy, flashy, elegant and fun.

^ I absolutely love traditional blended into contemporary design for clothes. A lot of fashion is so predictably new new new. There is a great deal to be said for old old old, no? Innovation and "original" invention are great, but I feel that fashion is at its best when it pays respect to tradition. From China, I like the silk, frogs and slippers, and the extreme sensitivity toward color and texture most of all.

I'm trying to find out about Guo Pei. Here is the link to an article from last year on her work. http://www.fashionwiredaily.com/first_word/runway/article.weml?id=736 I wish I could write in Chinese... it would make searching so much more satisfactory. Can someone post images of her design, please??

^ Thank you, but I was thinking about modern Chinese design that is using traditional elements and materials. I am very interested in how Chinese designers are using local, traditional details and styles. Can you find Guo Pei on sites in Chinese?? :flower:

^ Thanks. I'm hoping that people will post images from Chinese sites - I'm pretty good at finding information in English, French and other languages, but I'm totally stumped in non-English characters languages.

I never learned how to navigate so well through this site... how's the best way to find the prada ss08 link or thread that shows prada ss08????

It is chinese influence rather than Mangolian or Indian. It's the Chinese Qipao collar
They were worn by the Chinese Women even in the 1950's. The movie by Wong Kar Wai "In the mood for love" is partially famous for the beauty of Maggie Cheung's Dresses, Chinese Qipao. However this kind of collar is only worn by Chinese women, Prada has translate it to a men version, it might have been influenced by the Vitnamnese
Mangolian always have a different colour trim round the edge and around the neck, and the Indian one has front opening in the center whereas the Chinese qipao collar always has a bigger piece almost covering the front with the opening at the side.

Not to be argumentative, but I do not agree. Here is an example of the style you mention from "In The Mood For Love". Very different from the collar styles of the men's clothes posted above.
