Christian Dior Cruise 2024 Mexico City

I'm not too fond of luxury brands schooling people about sociopolitical contexts, which is very hypocritical since the essence of luxury goods is always about catering to the wealthy consumers who can afford them. Even in the heyday of "We Should All Be Feminists“T-shirt, it is more like a slap in the face of working-class women who are the victim of global economic disparity. Maybe it is the wokeness nowadays that the elitist groups are feeling good about embracing these messages, but it is still once again very distasteful of Dior to exploit feminism in this collection. As for the clothes, there is nothing to talk about from a fashion perspective but I understand that they are merely for the people who could afford this lifestyle.

Not gonna lie, messages in this thread are much more entertaining than the actual collection.
I can't believe I am saying this but MGC even at her worst didn't produce stuff as vile as John in the early 2000s. Those shows were fun but not exactly ideal for one of the most important couture houses in the world.
I would even go as far and compare John's "trailer trash era" to what Demna is doing right now at Balenciaga.

Wow. Not Galliano catching strays.

I didnt even notice that dress. How come MGC always manages to make everything about Italy at a French house. She also manages to make everything as Eurocentric as possible. All her “ethnic” collections have been basically Italy through a different lens. Her brand of contemporary white woman feminism is out dated. Its all very old ideas. A bunch of rich white women living so luxuriously - like that artist that inspired the dresses - that they can travel war torn countries in a wedding dress and live to tell about it. Can you imagine the privilege. So out of date - so tone deaf. So 2016.

Edit : oh the lady was murdered by some Turkish person who wasnt participating in her narccisistic performance art. RIP

John wouldve produced a gorgeous Mexican collection filled with accurate indigenous pieces whipped up into the Dior silhouette.

I get that those finale dresses were probably meant to make a statement but they just made me laugh. She can’t be subtle at all.

True! But at the same time, I think that Galliano gets a pass because he proved that he can do « Classy Dior » the years prior. His trashy Dior was fun and much more enjoyable than the provocations of McQueen or Julien MacDonald at Givenchy but even if some of my favorite collections of him at Dior are from that trashy era (2000-2005), in terms of pure products, a lot of it aren’t up to Dior standards. Yes, it was well made but considering that millenials mostly bought Tshirts, Satin track jackets and Tacky bags with huge «Addict » on it, it’s quite embarrassing. But the aura or creative Genius of John triumphed that…

That’s why for example Dior for me will always be below Chanel. Vintage Chanel has the same cachet or more than modern Chanel. The 00’s were actually quite classy for Chanel.

The fit of this bodice is more offensive to me than anything written on that dress:

are the final white dressess just to let their clients know they can do every look from any designer they want their client to copy from? seems to be just a mix of silhouettes from every designer possible.

It's just a bunch of fit and flare dresses.

If any brand can claim ownership of that very basic silhouette I'd say it's Dior.
