Christian Dior Haute Couture S/S 2023 Paris

Different backgrounds, same collection.

It's quite conservative and accessible. It's will be a hit for their clients. It's a shame really, you're so rich that you bought the same silhouettes season after season just with different colors.

It's not ugly, and it's not sloppily executed. I will give her that. It's a very straightforward cash grab.

It's a shame that she chooses to be the most conservative approach in a field where the only limit is your imagination. With access to skilled ateliers like Dior, the possibilities are endless.

The true offense is the set design. It’s a bizarre choice. Surely she knows she’s doing very very accessible collections, then either present it dry or with more experience. This is so in the middle.
The collection lacks dreams. This is super hard to market or contextualise.

This probably moves product, but it’s not creating legacy - and this will hurt the brand in the long term. They must know this at lvmh.

In all honesty, she's just Bohan 2.0. When the Arnaults decide to put Dior in the artistic limelight again, they'll consider pushing a more "fashion" oriented creative director. Let's just hope that it won't take 37 years this time.

I find this quite puzzling…
It’s so uninspiring in terms of presentation, casting…etc.
You would expect more personality.
I really think that this collection on a cast of Top models, in a more intimate set would look decent.

The only consolation is that her dresses are boring as they are will always be better than whatever Virginie will present.

I will defend Marc Bohan.
He did some fantastic things for Dior in the 70’s!
Yes the house didn’t lead fashion but he is more than what MGC will never be in terms of vision for Dior.
And someone who chose Chris Von Wangenheim to shoot his campaigns is probably more complex than what the history made him look like.

I'm probably the only fan of Maria Grazia Chiuri here on TFS.

You all know how much I appreciate her very wearable very practical haute couture.

But dear god, this is BORING!!!

I totally get it, it's beautifully done and there's some nice techniques. But for the most part this looks like it could be from anywhere or at least from the ready to wear collection..

I looked through the detail shots hoping that there would be something more to it.... and technically there is. There's a lot tiny all-over beading used throughout... but to what effect?

What's worse is that the collection is a tribute to Josephine Baker.

She had Josephine Baker as inspiration and this is all she came up with!?!?!?

Really?!?!?

In all honesty, MGC has a good body of work, but it should all be under the roof of Chanel or Vionnet. It's too overly serious and inoffensive for Dior.

The collection is inspired by Josephine Baker...she was mischievously sexy and fun.

But Mary Grace´s version of Josephine is suffering from a severe depression, after being closed in a convent for so many years...

I must say, I somehow enjoyed the show, even if I'm definitely not a fan of MGC's work. By no means was it exciting, but there was something calming in those simple silhouettes and limited colour palette. Those last four gowns, however, could have been edited out, they didn't really make any sense with the rest of the collection. I also don't want to comment on Josephine Baker as the inspiration, as it's pretty obvious Maria Grazia missed an opportunity to do something actually fantastic and fun. That said, it was just an ok show, but in the universe of MGC's Dior, that's already a success.
