Christian Dior Pre-Fall 2025 Kyoto

a few things…

I have seen nothing about this show on social media, I didn’t even know it happened and I’ve spent quite a bit of time on IG today.

It’s nice on a commercial level but for a show I am bored to tears. That said, her commercial offering is better than what was in stores when John was CD, which was quite matronly in hindsight.

I cannot wait for her to be out.
To her defense, it’s usually the case with prefall shows, even more when they are shown off-season and more in line with the arrival in stores. It’s more a glorified trunk show than anything else.

Next month it’s Resort season that usually generates more coverage.

I’m now thinking how funny it is that her two last RTW shows are for the collections that sits the longest in stores.

I'm just going to leave the below photo from JG's Spring 2007 Haute Couture Collection as my comment.

As much as I like the MB collection, I think it’s after all a fantasy.
Everytime a Galliano comparison like this is put when the work of MGC is in question, it makes it even more obvious that this belong to a certain time in which women don’t necessarily subscribe anymore.
It’s very spectacular, very inspiring but maybe for today, too intimidating of a vision for women today.

I really associate that era of Galliano to women walking slowing and sometimes needing a support to walk down the stairs. And for me, when I’m reminiscing of the Galliano years, I often think more of women being fierce walking on their own and being in control.

I’m sure a lot of women would love to have that suit from 2007 but I’m sure a lot more women would want to look like the models in this Japanese inspired RTW collection from MGC.

That’s where I think JWA is expected: to bring that dream of imagination back (in a different way than John indeed) but also presenting a vision that will be aspirational for women. Because I never know if MGC’s work lacks personality or just flavor.
