Christy Turlington returned to her home town to promote her book "Living Yoga". She appeared at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco on October 15th, 2002, for a moderated Question & Answer period and a book-signing. [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]

Christy looked lovely, dressed casually in a tailored "man's" shirt, blue with pinstripes, not tucked in to her black slacks, and a gray sweater tied around her shoulders. (She discarded the sweater as soon as she got to the podium.)
Christy was interviewed by Remel Brooks-Moon -- a San Francisco Bay Area radio personality and the booth announcer for the San Francisco Giants baseball team. She read to Christy the questions that had been written on cards by members of the audience.
...
Supermodel, Christy Turlington.
"Supermodel is one of my least favorite terms... I'm hoping to add 'author'..."
Why do you dislike the term "supermodel" and where did that come from anyway?
"I think it started when there was a contest called 'Supermodel of the World'.
It was a boring time in fashion, and somebody decided,
'let's have some excitement about the girls since the clothes are not exciting at all' ..."
On Yoga and her book:
"Many people find Yoga overwhelming and intimidating.
I wanted to de-mystify it -- not water it down, but simplify.
Yoga is not just about the physical. It teaches good ethics which is also a goal of all religions..."
What about diet?
"Yoga is a practice for the mind; the physical is less important. The body becomes a tool to get to a mental destination. For me the rule in diet is moderation. Eat things that make you feel good."
Would you ever eat something like a hot-fudge sundae?
"Sure, last night my sister had a hot-fudge sundae and I ate some of it."
Tell us about India.
"I was always very interested in India but I didn't want to go there on a fashion shoot -- that just didn't feel right. So eventually I took a month and went on my own... In that culture -- by the way people dress and the way they relate to each other -- you know that God is important to each individual. Everything is done in service to God -- that blew me away."
Are you a follower of an Eastern Religion?
"... I am a practicing Catholic."
Do you still model?
"My businesses are very time-intensive. Running two businesses at the same time was probably not a good idea!... I model when it's easy; and I try do do things that are in sync with my businesses, and there are often exchanges -- I work it!"
Who are your favorite authors?
"I'm just now starting to be able to read for pleasure again. Right after I finished college, I just couldn't read anymore. I have a great library in my new apartment, and now I'm starting to pull things down and read novels again. Right now I'm reading 'Catcher in the Rye' for the first time... But I don't have many 'favorites' of anything."
"...my dog, my new horse..."
"I just spent a week kidsitting my nephew and niece who are 7 and 8. They didn't miss their mother a bit, and I realized -- we're completely interchangeable!"
Do you believe that if all the children of the world were taught Yoga,
there would be Peace on Earth?
"Well, I'd like to believe that; but look at something like Yoga in New York:
that gets to be as competitive as anything else..."
Interviewer:
We have time for just one more question. Wait! -- I don't know if I can read this:
Are you still single? And if so, what does someone have to do to get a date with you?
SECURITY!!! -- Just kidding, sir.
(Laughter and applause.)
(Then we all left the lecture hall and went to the Club's library for the book-signing.)
