Herb called me the night before the shoot to ask me if I was free the following day to be a “prop” for a Vanity Fair shoot he was doing with KD Lang. First time I ever shaved someone! So cool being on the set with KD—she was singing all day! I'm not sure who thought this one up—Herb or KD—but I love how tongue-in-cheek it is!

On her decision to do Playboy.

So, doing Playboy was a big decision for me. It was right at the time when I was doing a lot of Vogue and other fashion magazines. It was a risky move, but Herb and I had a deal with Playboy that provided a safety net. We said we would go and shoot some pictures, but if after the shoot we weren’t comfortable publishing them, we would be allowed to put a stop on them. We went to Hawaii and just tried to do beautiful nudes that would make us proud in any magazine. They just happened to be in Playboy—at least that’s what I told my dad!

ALTHOUGH Cindy Crawford appreciates Vogue's "great" Health Initiative, she thinks that consumers have the power to change the media's perception of ideal beauty.

"I think that the fashion industry is in the consumers' hands, because, if they buy into it, nothing will change" said Crawford. "If consumers don't like it that models are too skinny, or too young, and they don't buy the magazines, then believe me, then the magazines will have to change."

The Health Initiative, which was launched earlier this month, is a pact between 19 international Vogue editors to help encourage "a healthy body image". As one of the world's most famous and experienced supermodels, what does Crawford think is the biggest problem facing young models today?

"You know, I don't know. I'm not still in the trenches right now," she told Jezebel. "But, if you make too many rules - like: 'You can't work this many hours' - it doesn't work, because sometimes you have to. Sometimes you have to get up early or be prepared to do the job in the freezing cold. I think that, again though, models have to have a voice and speak up for themselves, every day, on the job. People have to respect each other. And if you're working with someone who doesn't respect you, then leave."
