She looks gorgeous in those pics at the Shopgirl premiere. I can't wait for Shopgirl, although I might have to wait for the DVD.

^^You should try to see it in theaters if you can- it's very good (and one of Claire's best performances IMO). If not, you should definately rent the DVD.

Here are some more pics from the UK premiere:

Thank you everyone for all the lovely images of and articles about Claire as of late. :flower: I've been swamped with school and haven't been able to keep up as well as I would have liked. Here are a few gorgeous pics I hadn't seen before. The rest can be found at Bruno Press.

Awww, those last pics remind me of a young Claire, circa MSCL. That first close-up and those self-hugging poses just scream Angela Chase.

Her stock in trade? Emotional goods
OrlandoSentinel.com - November 10, 2005
by Roger Moore

As the star of 'Shopgirl,' Claire Danes shows she knows how to execute the art of the acting deal.
TORONTO -- Claire Danes wants to make a point about the way she lives her life and what she loves about her work. She's just 26, and she has been an actress since she was 12. So naturally she refers to a movie.
"Remember Waking Life?" she asks, summoning up Richard Linklater's Slacker-ish philosophical cartoon of 2001. "You remember that scene where there's two guys talking on a porch, and one guy says, 'Every moment could be sacred. Every moment could be filled with awe.'?
"That's one of the joys of this work. You share something real when you're playing at make-believe. I feel like, when acting works, when it's really happening, that's possible. That's a reason to keep doing it. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it's beautiful."
Just the sort of sweet, hopeful, romantic thing we would expect from a young woman so often described as "ethereal."
Danes is, as she has been since we first took notice of her on TV's My So-Called Life, that girl-next-door beauty with a face that is an open window on emotion. She can break your heart without even trying. She was the perfect Juliet to Leonardo DiCaprio's Romeo, the perfect reason Matt Damon would want to be a better lawyer (The Rainmaker), the perfect "actress" to take the stage from the 17th-century female impersonators of Stage Beauty.
It's a wonder every leading man she has ever had hasn't fallen for her. One, Billy Crudup, did, in Stage Beauty. That brought the first hint of scandal to Danes. Crudup was living with his pregnant girlfriend, Mary Louise Parker.
"We try to follow the straight and narrow path to the best of our abilities," says Danes, laughing off her image and what a tabloid stink can do to a persona. "But sometimes we falter. And very, very publicly."
The woman who plays the title character in Shopgirl is the reason writer/co-star Steve Martin says the movie was pulled from a February release, "because we wanted to give Claire a shot at an Oscar."
Martin wrote the novella the film is based on, and here's how he described Mirabelle, the title character: She "looks like a puppy standing on its hind legs, and the two brown dots of her eyes, set in the china plate of her face, make her seem very cute and noticeable."
Well, the eyes aren't brown. But the rest of that is Danes to a T.
"She has that warm, beautiful glow," Martin says. "And she doesn't gussy herself up. And she is not so much quiet, but in her acting, she's very soft-spoken. That's who Mirabelle is.
"She's somebody who, like the character in the book, can gain your sympathy in just a paragraph. She does that in the first 10 minutes of the movie."
Danes is traveling with her dog, Weegie, the mellowest 6-month-old "schnoodle" (schnauzer-poodle) on record. He sits quietly in her lap as she scratches his ears and talks about Shopgirl, which she read when the novella came out in 2001.
"It's rare to have a story centered around a girl who's not saving the world or wearing a bustier," she says. "There's nothing conspicuously remarkable about Mirabelle. But she is quietly . . . heroic is way too strong of a word, but courageous, in her own way. This feeling and searching she does is a really nice, sensitive, honest, classic love story.
"It's about loneliness. And it's also about L.A., which is one of Steve's favorite subjects. L.A. and loneliness -- they're a good couple."
Danes has to carry the weight in a movie in which underplaying is the rule in Martin's wistful love triangle (Jason Schwarztman is the third party). Emotions are mostly kept beneath the surface.
"It was a really big challenge to really commit to her stillness, her quiet, and to trust that the audience would want to engage with her," Danes says. "How do you do that and stay entertaining? I know I'm making a movie that people will want to be thrilled by, in some way. I was nervous, because you always want to do a little tap-dancing, but there just isn't much room for that here."
She laughs.
"So instead I stripped."
Yes, she has a nude scene.
And yes, she thinks it's entirely possible for a lonely 26-year-old beauty to be attracted to a 60-year-old man with money. And not just because of the money.
"We enter into relationships to learn things. And not just about love, about the world. We inherit each other's gifts in relationships.
"The greatest aphrodisiac is somebody being attracted to you."
And she grins mischievously at how this role punctures her image, and how pairing with much-older Martin was a good career move.
"The important thing in this is in keeping the love story from turning creepy -- young woman, much older man," she says, smiling, "and in keeping the creepiness."
