Clothing Vs. Accessories

I think accessories are more important ... if you have killer shoes, you're probably going to look good. As I think about my wardrobe, my accessories tend to be of pretty uniformly good quality (and also have a lot of interest). There are pieces of clothing that I value just as highly, but I also have "commodity" pieces that I wouldn't be heartbroken to lose ... I could find another black cardigan.

I spend more on accessories because they tend to last longer. I noticed even when I buy expensive clothes they wear out soon or get stains so I prefer to buy cheaper clothes. Plus, I like shopping for accessories more.

Well, for me, accessories make the outfit in terms of quality and polish, but clothing makes the outfit in terms of self-expression.

Cheapo accessories drag the whole outfit down with them, but cheaper clothes can usually be improved vastly by good accessories. (Jackets and coats are the exception, if they are of obviously lesser quality they can drag down an outfit.) In that sense, accessories play a more important role for me in looking well-dressed, especially shoes. So for work, I often turn to the trusty Mikimoto pearl necklace, Vivienne Westwood jacket, Chanel bag and Charles Jourdan heels which help pull any outfit together, which could be Zara pants and an AA tee.

That said, personally, I find that clothes help me express myself better than accessories, just because of my more eccentric personality. No accessory in the world could make a basic pantsuit reflect my true style, but with my favorite Zucca dress, I could happily go barefoot.

But shoes are crucial: it's either good shoes or no shoes. I have attended cocktail parties barefoot when I didnt have the right pair:ninja:.

I'm much more a clothing person. I love to layer on a variety of shapes, textures and styles. I probably would venture into accessories too if I had a bigger bank account :P For the moment, I have to be creative, and I purchase many second hand items that I customize. I'd love to have some outstanding shoes though.

^^ I agree, accessories would be my thing if I wasn't a poor student. So I tend to purchase a lot more clothes than accessories but I love my large collection of charity shop scarves :)

You had me at But... Great response.

I've come to notice lately that I don't feel like I've prepared myself properly for the day without a phenomenal pair of shoes to carry me through the day...so for the mood cloud I've been under lately, I'm favoring accessories right now.

you cant really wear the same item of clothing everyday i your life but accessories yes! furthermore they really can make a "cheap, broke down, bargain basement outfit" look great. I care less about my clothes but more about the belts, shoes, and all the rest of it.

I agree with this. All of my bags and shoes are of good quality and lots of my clothes are too but I have clothes from all over. I rarley buy jewelry myself, most of it's gifts from my mom and grandma. If I'm lazy I feel like I can make a plain outfit look more interesting with accessories, but there are also outfits were the clothes shine and not so much the accessories.

I'm more of an accessories person. I'm limited for clothing (in sizes, space and er, money, heh) but I can always have good accessories to add to my outfits. My little rule is my shoes should be immaculate and good quality, and if I have to save for them I will. I justify it by saying I walk practically everywhere, and am constantly on my feet, so my shoes have to last. :ninja:

i like clothing more than accessories.
though, shoes are a cruical matter in an outfit :p

Socks? Heavens no. A blood-red pedicure. B)

It was indoors, not too dangerous

^ Just have to watch out for any stilettos crunching by ;) I guess it's at a time like that that you're grateful for graceful friends ^_^

LOTS of girls wear really expensive designer shoes and bags with cheap little tops and dresses from h&m and american apparel...

seems pretty standard imo...

:p

I value my clothes much more than accessories. The only exception would be shoes, which I don't really consider an accessory. I'm not one for trinkets, and people notice well-made clothes more than accessories. I also could never picture going jewellery shopping for myself. Of course there's a slightly more complicated hierarchy based on the item of clothing or accessory in question, but generally speaking I choose clothes without hesitation.

accessories are great.. and all the more if they are unique and interesting

but you are not truly living imo if you don't apply this to your clothes :p because there is so much variety in weight and texture and feel in different fabrics ... to have experience in this, maybe you won't even go back to relying on accessories
maybe simple clothes are more private
only the wearer knows what special about it
because their skin is the one gliding over it...
but an accessory is much more in your face

i would say clothes as im not much of an accessory person. The only accessories that i really love are watches i mean really good watches
