Coach Holiday 2018 : Selena Gomez by Steven Meisel

I don't know why Coach keeps using her in its campaigns. She just isn't visually interesting, especially when you see the ads life-sized in the in-store versions. She just looks like every other girl you see in a mall.

i get that the followers is a good reason to have her as an ambassador, but there's no real need to put her in the regular print/instore ads. More seriously, i think there's this awkward believability issue, i mean it's so obviously just a pay check, and when they try to portray this collaboration as somehow organic it all just falls apart. Let's call it for what it is: a heritage accessories brand trying to position itself as more high end and artistic and a former disney channel actress trying to do the same thing.

But every brand and celebrity thing is about mutual opportunism...
Even when there's a genuine relationship between the brand/designer and the celebrity.

She totally make sense for Coach, much more than she did for Vuitton an much more than Kendall Jenner does for Longchamp for example.
Selena is popular with young girls (particulary young american girls) but she can also appeal to their parents.
Giving Coach's price point, a parent would be more inclined to offer a 400$ bag to her daughter for Christmas than a much more expensive Vuitton one.
She still has that Disney aura that works on her favor...She is distancing herself but not to much! Coach is as mainstream as Disney in the US.

We are quite far from Christina Aguilera becoming the face of Versace during her Stripped era. That was a statement for a former Disney kid.

Selena Gomez might not be our definition of "high fashion", but she is very beautiful and pretty, and shes not too shabby in front of the lens.

Using selena is one of the best decisions coach has ever done, making ppl like me who couldn't careless about this brand even bother to check its the new campaign and actually like it.
It's hard to believe, but in social media era, a girl could have more energy than a commercial flagship brand

Meisel always goes into autopilot for Coach. I like this shot a lot, but it doesn't look much different to her previous campaign. And as the article below states, he's not exactly cheap. So should everyone just pay for the name?

Coach stands by Selena Gomez during latest rehab stint

Selena Gomez’s dazzling new holiday campaign for Coach will roll out in two weeks, we hear, even as the singer remains in a psychiatric facility to deal with mental-health issues.

Fashion sources said this week that Coach had planned more shooting with the singer for an upcoming spring campaign, which had to be put on hold when she entered rehab earlier this month.

But another source said all is well — and that the fall shoot will feature Coach’s latest face, Michael B. Jordan, who signed to the brand last month, while Gomez just shot the holiday ads.

Gomez entered rehab reportedly due to stress over being hospitalized twice in two weeks for complications from her kidney transplant. The singer suffers from lupus.

A source said that Gomez was scheduled to shoot a new Coach campaign this month, and top agency Baron & Baron was even hired for the shoot. But the source said that when Gomez’s health suffered, the pricey seven-figure campaign had to be shelved. A source said Baron & Baron was working to reschedule to accommodate the sensitive situation.

But another fashion insider said that Coach was only meant to use Gomez for its holiday campaign, which will come out globally in the next two weeks, and that the brand’s spring 2019 campaign will feature “Black Panther” star Jordan, who will appear with other female models.

Gomez’s most recent Coach collaboration dropped in August, featuring bags, accessories and ready-to-wear items such as sweaters and slip dresses.

Meanwhile, Gomez’s new song “Taki Taki,” with Cardi B and others, is No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Streaming chart.

We reported this month that a source told us of Gomez’s rehab move, “[Selena] has had a lot on her plate — too much.” And that Justin Bieber, her ex, getting engaged to Hailey Baldwin didn’t help. But “Selena also has a major medical condition with lupus, and her transplant, which always is a complicating factor.”

Reps didn’t comment.

I don't mean it as a shade, Benn! Like magsaddict said, they're perfect for each other in that sense.

I never said anything, lol. Either way, I think Coach hired her because of her reach personally. Same with Louis Vuitton. Selena's personal style is so far removed from these two brands to be honest.

According to models.com, Wellington Grant is also part of this.
