:heart:Coconut Oil:heart: by NUTIVA - the most amazing thing.
I eat it, moisturize with it.... it's oh so lovely.
No more breakouts or skin problems of any sort - and that coming from a girl who used to swear by $100 face creams .....

where do you get this oil? and how do you use it for your face? any particular insructions?

I LOVE it, it makes wonders on feet and hands when they're overworked.
and the smell...!

I want to know more about it too! Where do you buy yours from?

it's available in most drug stores, just ask for it, if they don't have it, they'll probably be able to point out the places where you can find it. :flower:

Just do a search on it on Amazon, for Nutiva Coconut Oil, and some good health food stores have it.
I wouldn't recommend other other brands as this is the only one I have heard from others is really clean and properly manufactured.

Since I had moved to LA I was suffering from dry breakout skin (like , HELLO, whatcha gonna do with that, right?) ,blackheads etc and one day
this model showed up who had the most amazing skin and asked her what she was using, and she told me about the coconut oil....

First I only used it on the body. Takes a moment to soak in, so I usually sit in bathroom sipping green tea for a few mins, but once you get used to it, it soaks in much faster.

When i started using it on my face instead of moisturizer, i broke out more at first, because I was also eating it (4 times a day by the spoon) and it cleans out toxins etc).

I completely stopped using everything else (eye cream, dermalogica face cream, creme de la mer , face masks/treatments etc etc and whatever else i was using over the years).

But once your body / face gets over the initial thing? Oh my!
My face rarely breaks out (only before period a little but just for 1 day and is gone) and glows! I don't need to use foundation anymore either, only mascara and lip gloss.

Only other thing I use is glycolic toner by mario badescu to take off dead skin cells (I don't use any exfoliator anymore , either, it just scars your skin) and mario badescu glycolic face wash 2-3 times a week, otherwise I just wash my face/hair/body with Castille Soap.

You can also use it as conditioner for dry hair, just put it in hair overnight or before you wash it , I always run fingers through hair with leftovers, just to give it a nice sheen...

when you google coconut oil, you'll find out that it is antibacterial/antiviral even.

Enjoy, and let me know how it works for you!

i use it in my hair, it makes it grow faster many guys with dreadlocs use it

I use it in my hair too. My favorite is Global Goddess Shine Coconut Amla revitalizing hair treatment; it's not as heavy as pure coconut oil. :flower:

sounds interesting ^_^ i had used Tropical Traditions coconut oil once on my face.. it's not greasy but if you put it on the face, it does feel a little oily--doesn't exactly get completely absorbed...kind of like baby oil

and i've been searching for a product with glycolic acid too :woot: So thanks, beatrice neumann
I hear glycolic acid works just like an exfoliator. It gets rid of the top layer of skin, so your body can produce new cleaner skin.. But the percentage of glycolic acid in the product is the most important. I hope that these Mario Badescu products have a good amount...
I read about the glycolic acid in a tv show for Dr Denise's Secrets to Ageless Skin

yeah, coconut on hair is not exactly the most volumizing treatment, but it washes out perfectly to leave the hair healthy and shiny...
a lot of "coconut products" contain coconut oil and lots of other crap along with it, therefore i just stick to the pure coconut oil for everything.
coconut treatments may have some coconut it it, but hell knows what happens with it by the time it gets in that jar of global goddess ....
but i used to use kiehls hair paks with coconut ($35) and the oil has same result in end, so that's not just cheaper, but also works better for me.
women in india use only the oil- has worked for hundreds or years if not longer - (nut sure about the history).

RE: glyclolic products - I used to be exfoliator maniac! I used the super expensive serums by peter thomas roth etc with glycolic acid (that stuff burns, and i don't even have sensitive skin!)

So I go with glycolic wash 3 times a week:

http://www.mariobadescu.com/productDetail.asp?ProductID=204&CatId=15

and then either one of these toners twice a day:

http://www.mariobadescu.com/productDetail.asp?ProductID=20&CatId=2
http://www.mariobadescu.com/productDetail.asp?ProductID=21&CatId=2
http://www.mariobadescu.com/productDetail.asp?ProductID=27&CatId=2

I'd start with the mildest, use the glyclolic wash 3 times a week , which should be fine.

word! thanks for sharing, beatrice neumann! :flower:
i use coconut oil myself for quite a while now and absolutely love the effects it has on my skin. it's important to use pure unrefined organic coconut oil, extra vergine (manufactured the same way the good olive oils are), if you want to get all the benefits though.

I love Bowie! ha.
NUTIVA makes the good stuff. I don't know about others, the words "organic", "extra virgin" etc etc is loosely used with coconut oil.

I bought a jar of USDA certified organic coconut oil, from a brand called Spectrum. It has this horrible smell to it...but then again, I don't like drinking coconut milk so it might just be my personal taste. Does anyone else have this problem? I tried cooking with it, but it made my food a bit hard to stomach.

yes, that's exactly what meant in reply above - there are not that many HIGH QUALITY coconut oils.
try a small jar of the one I use - it has practically no smell, has a very non intrusive, yummy taste ( i am assuming that the one you have has some artificial stuff in it as coconut oil doesn't have any real quality control and you could basically take a crap in a jar and called it certified organic coconut oil).
either way it's recommended to start slow on the ingesting part - coconut oil is like a detoxing agent and it might cause diarreha , even vomiting at first (i ate a huge spoon once and puked:sick:- lesson learned!)
so i'd say, try another brand like NUTIVA and see if that makes you sick also, but i doubt it.

Just google "coconut oil" or read the wikipedia entries to get info on all the goodies it does for you!

that's interesting, beatrice! i didn't know that organic stuff doesn't certify as it does in europe. i live in germany, and here any product only qualifies for the organic certificate (ist's called BIO) after very strict testing. so the VITAQUELL i use is really pure.

I have used the Spectrum organic coconut oil (unrefined) on my skin and hair for ages. Unrefined coconut oil is for cooking so its life is one to three months. You may be able to extend the life of your jar of oil if you keep it in the fridge but a cool, dark place is acceptable.

Keep in mind that oils can go rancid, so it is best to purchase oils from a reputable source. Coconut oil has a very long shelf life when it is prepared properly because it is so saturated, however you will find some places that have old stock.

Could you tell me where you buy it and how much it is? :flower:
