Coconut Oil

yes, of course, satin chic. any respectable "reformhaus" should carry the vitaquell brand. the site vitaquell.de might also be helpful. the product i use is "vitaquell kokosöl nativ". :flower:

Doesn't it have tons of saturated fat? How is that good for your skin? I used to use it on my hair, but when my hair touched my face I'd break out like crazy! Much more so than when my hair touches my face and there's no coconut oil in it.

coconut oil is one of the best finds ever! Its a staple in the summer for me! Its a great tanning oil and adds a bit of color naturally. Add it to your bath or to your wet skin as soon as youve jumped out for the softest skin ever - great for winter battered skin. And coconut body butter is great for winter too - and so is the fresh milk if you use it 2-3 times a week as an intense cleanser!
I couldnt live without it!

Holland and Barrett do a great one for less than a tenner! Asda is also a great source of it - surprisingly enough!

oooh i loooove coconut oil and pretty much anything coconut.
It is a saturated fat, but there's a lot of misinformation out there about saturated fat mostly meaning trans fat, not coconut oil. It is pretty much the healthiest oil you can cook with and eat... but if you don't like the taste/smell, probably not going to work for you.

I put it on my skin after shower, body and face, and sometimes sleep with it on my hair and shampoo it out the next morning and my hair is soooo great. It's soft, smooth, and shiny. It is a solid if the air temp is cool, so I put it on the shower floor and let the hot water run by it, and by the time I am done it's liquidy and I can put it on my skin.

I know it's so good for your skin, but sometimes I don't think it is moisturizing enough, I'll still get dry patches on my face and elbows.

I've used Nutiva, Garden of Life, Tropical Traditions, and Spectrum. The most important thing is that it is extra virgin and unrefined, organic is preferred. Make sure it is a food grade one and not a cosmetic.

This is really interesting, thanks everyone. Some time ago, I was recommended coconut oil as a body moisturiser & got some Coconut Oil BP from Boots to try. I found it a bit too greasy & didn't really absorb properly, though I loved the scent. Maybe I should have persevered as it sounds amazing stuff. Should it be stored in the fridge as it can go rancid or is on a shelf OK?

I just got a jar of this yesterday and am already hooked :woot:

Very good quality, very yummy coconut oil, it's divine! It tastes and smells wonderful. And not pricey either. I paid 3.25 € for a 200g jar I think (way cheaper than most body care products! And you can eat it, too!)

I use it to oil cleanse, as a moisturizer and I put some on my hair overnight... I will check how it worked when I dry my hair ^_^

^ it's really great for moisturizing dry tresses. and if there's any product build up on the scalp (which especially happens after the use of any product with dimethicone or other silicon ingredients) that you have to get rid of with a special rinse, coconut oil is perfect for nourishing afterwards.

you just apply it to the hair and not rinse it out?
if you go to bed, won't it rub all over your pillow? :ninja:

I do not store mine in the fridge, however I go through it so quickly that I do not need to. I would recommend at least storing it in a dark area or if you plan to have a single jar on hand for an extended period, keep it in the fridge.

Sometimes I apply it to dry hair, sometimes I apply it to wet, towel dried hair. However, I always tie my hair back and sleep with a towel draped over my pillow. I'm not sure if it is necessary or not, but I tend to be picky about my bed being clean.
