I've got the feeling there is a big diversity between people with what should be emphasis of designing. Personally, I hate conceptual fashion but find it almost impossible to come up with an idea for a garment without having some kind of concept in the back of my head. So I wondered how other people think when they are designing, are you just drawing a sketch down on a blank paper or working more like in project form. And also what is more important to show (if you work conceptual), to let the concept and thought shine or to more focus on aesthetic? I'm very interested because I'm designing a lot of clothes myself and it's interesting to hear how other people work.

I like that you have a concept in the back of your head when you're designing, that's interesting.

i think of it as a way of writing...

Like the opinions is not the most important or the action but its about to create an atmosphere, and you need to know everything but the surroundings but dont tell everything.
hope that make some sense.

I can design without concepts easily. I just randomly doodle away and make it up as i go along. Flaw is that, prior to desiging i had to be exposed to some sort of art forms/inspiration at the simplest level.
Let say if i was studying math equations all day, i'm not likely to get a very good design.

But i dont think my method works for most people, b/c i have done this for ages in life. Studying for test, presentation ,etc. I skim it, and make it up as i go along

of course when i need to do concept i do what you do.

Importance of concept or aesthetic depends on the situation.
I personally prefer aesthetic. b/c i believe everything has some sort of concept. Just that one is more organized, while one is a cluster of memories and feelings jampacked together. I dont think one is superior to the other.

I think so too^
Most things start with a concept
but many times I will create things on spontaneity, or by accident
and that itself gives me the direction on where to take the design.

Concepts can be anything
can be varied
It can be a story or it can just be a mood, an atmosphere
or it can be technique-based, formalist, etc.

posed_to_death: maybe you can get ideas in this thread in Art&Design ?
