Cows Milk vs. Soy Milk?

I have never been able to drink cow milk, I don't know why. I am not lactose intolerant, since I can drink it when I add chocolate or when I make smoothies, but the taste that I add has to be strong so that I don't feel the taste of milk at all. Once in a Chinese restaurant I tried cerial with soy milk and it was awful. I usually shop in Whole Foods, any specific soy milk that I could try?

i drink soy, cow milk makes me sleepy and it's sooooo creamy which i can't stand
i hate vanilla flavoured soy milk though, like silk
i drink this organic, non- gmo brand that you can only buy from certain places.... i'll post the brand later after i figure out what it is.

I LOVE SOY...im drinking chocolate soymilk right now and it tastes really good. Start eating more soy products because it does have a lot more essential nutrients, its very good for your health anyways it lowers your cholesterol levels, a less chance of getting diabetes, and heart disease.

I love cows milk. I drink about 3 glasses of it a day:D

My body had nothing against it either...and it has to be fresh whole milk. I can't stand that UHT or skimmed stuff.

But Soy milk:yuk:
A kid that I babysit has eczema and drinks soy milk. It has a texture like water and is too sweet.

That's just my taste^_^

I stopped drinking cow milk about a year ago and it's good for my voice. I still have trace amounts in my coffee or milkshakes or ice cream but I don't have those very often. I still get milk (skim only) to use in my cooking though, but drinking glasses of it does not work for me.

Slightly off topic, but I just bought KingLand Soy 'cream cheese', and it is one of the most vile things i've ever tasted. I mean I know unflavoured soy tastes quite plasticiney, but this is nothing like cream cheese. It is hard and tastes JUST like playdough. I'm not kidding. I nearly gagged. Did they even try it?!

I love both. But unsweetened soy milk tastes gross IMO. Soymilk is only really good when you add a spoon or two of sugar or a lil' baggy of Sweet'n'Lows. Milk on the other hand, I can drink like that out of the box. I find it really yum. Both full and skimmed.

On the question of Calcium, because Calcium is used by the body to absorb Proteins, trying to get Calcium from protein rich milks is kind of pointless. The best way is dark leafy vegetables and salads.

And to add my two pennies worth to the Soy/cow debate, I am furiously against diary as anything other than a treat in a diet. We just aren't designed for it, like we aren't designed for alcohol. We may have made ourselves fairly tolerant (although many aren't especially in Asia where a lot of people are lactose intolerant) but it is not really a question of tolerance because what that really means is that dairy is affecting our digestive systems in the long run but not enough to ellicit a strong allergic reaction. The problem with this is we are damaging ourselves without knowing.

Also what other animal in nature drinks milk past weaning and moreover drinks the milk of another animal. Nature is the best guide. Just like salt isn't good for us -hello why do they say 'salt the ground'? Because plants cannot grow in salted Earth because it is BAD BAD BAD.

absolutely, sienna! i never drink cow's milk since i found that i can't digest it properly. dairy is always kind of problematic: i love cheese but only have it occasionally, as a treat. eating dairy and – BEWARE!!!– bread makes me slow and seems to drain energy from me. green veggies are best. and fruit. i LOVE fruit!

I drink soy milk, its healthy and has a sweet taste - who wants to drink fluid from another animal that has not been expressed for human consumption but for it's offspring? It does not make sense, after all you wouldn't drink milk from another woman's breast would you, or lets say a dog for that matter...?

This is kind of a tough one. When eating cereal I prefer a dairy alternative so I use Rice milk ( the smell of soy makes me a bit  ) I tend to find that a large quantity of dairy causes my stomach to bloat where the rice milk keeps me nice and flat.

But.... there is always a but I like cows milk in my tea/coffee as the rice milk does not taste to good in a hot drink.

Kind of on topic but not...has anybody tried alomond milk?

Skimmed cows milk. Im allergic to dairy but i refuse to stop having it. Bahh alergies!

yes taperjeangirl. though almond milk is quite expensive i like it a lot. it is sweet in a subtle way and a little creamy which tastes great with coffee. :D

I can't believe the amount of people here who like soy milk. I don't even remember seeing it in shops, and i know of no one who drinks it.

I love my 3.5% cow milk. :p
and i drink plenty. and i find the worst part of being away is having to go without milk since there is nothing as bad as that watery long-life stuff. :ninja:

Thanks:flower: Now I have some guts to actually try it now instead of dithering in the shop. Do they only sell it in the large cartons? as I never manage to get through a large carton in a week.

P.S When you have it in the coffee is it distinctive or does it just blend into the flavour of the coffee?:flower:

i don't know too much about the box sizes. my local organic food shop sells almond milk in cans of 500 ml which i easily empty in one week. also, it blends nicely into my coffee :-))
if you decide to give it a try please let me know how you like it.

I love both cow's milk and soy milk, but my stomach is bloating and it hurts terribly because of cow's milk, so I am forced to drink only soy milk.

What country are you in? Every country i've been to, perhaps with the exception of France, has whole aisles, both fresh and long-life dedicated to rice and soy milk. :/ I have about 13 brands to choose from, each with about 4-5 flavours, including low fat of each brand, plus the organic range, fresh, soy yoghurts etc.

I hate long life milk too. Why don't you try vitasoy caramel soy milk, its so good. Oh and their creamy original, although not as good to drink on its own, works really well in teas, hot chocolate, horlicks, porridge etc. Might help you see why so many people drink it, as well as the ethical issue that arises from drinking cows milk. :flower:

I recently discovered that I had a dairy allergy. I have been off all dairy foods and products for the last 2 1/2 months and I am now free of horrendous allergies which I have been suffering from since childhood. I used to have severe hayfever, acne, bloating and and no one was able to diagnose what the cause was. All I was ever told was- "You have a bad immune system". Since quitting dairy I am so much healthier. Have lost all the bloating ( I have cheekbones and jaw structure I never knew I had!!!) My skin is clear now too ( but I dont know if its from the pill)..

I drink bonsoy- Non GM sugar free soy milk. tastes amazing but is a bit pricy. Oh well better than having a runny nose 24/7.
