I've seen lots of people doing the straight cut trousers with the regular blazers that Balenciaga was doing a bit of in ss06
All images from elle.com, style.com

Zac Posen, Tibi, Sari Gueron all FW0607

The last one is Balenciaga ss06

^ Space, what exactly do you mean by balenciaga influence....? i think it's just a general influence (the shapes, cuts...) whose precussor may have been past balenciaga collections.... ...but i don't really see it as a balenciaga influence... For example high waist tulip skirts are becoming the it runway item and it's seen almost everywhere... ..although I must admit Balenciaga was the first to bring it to the runways in a wearable version (fall 04 i think), but still, I don't see it as a sole Balenciaga influence......

And as Saann, mentionned, regular blazers and straight cut trousers are just a general runway trend for this season, they may have looked into Balenciaga for inspiration, but not just that....

i think he is refering to the silhouette which may have been either created or brillinatly commanded by Cristobal Balenciaga in the 1950s

Yes :)

not Ghesquiere's influence...

Ah...THAT Balenciaga influence - in which case, I agree and it's not really a bad thing. Just as when Biba and old Chanel references are made, it's not a sin.

Hum .. the matter is that Ghesquiere recreates Balenciaga so well .. that he deserves a bit or credit (dont you think?)

And yes ... this is the shape of things to come (and I'd buy if I could afford)

Yes I know :p but I was just thinking that it wasn't featured as strongly in the other spring collections out there as it did in balenciagas so that could have influenced other designers..

lovely thread, miu. i wish this would grow a little...for my own knowledge. ^_^

It would also be helpful to post some pictures of the designs by the original Balenciaga man ;) (I mean Cristobal...

So we can compare... *o*

I can definitely see a lot of Cristobal Balenciaga on the runways recently. But he was a genius when it came to the cut, his clothes were like sculptures. So I guess it fits pretty well with the new more tailored style on the runways.

also agreed on the Cristobal influence for fw0607, the Paris retrospective is also up soon, so respects are payed already (see the whole 'volume' issue which CB did so well back in the 50's)
due to the retrospectivee, i bet the 'cristobal trend' will stay with us for seasons to come evn though i'm not sure how well this will go down the 'mainstream' consumer
anyway, Cristobal Balenciaga, is one of my designer icons evr, a true genious master of cut

thanks for those excellent balenciaga pics mafiosa

here, two 'balenciag-isms' from ysl fw0607

good eye ida, even though i suspect this is from their ss06 ;)

Oh! Sorry. I had this crazy idea that it was some kinda pre-fall thingy, can't really tell SS06 and FW0607 from each other clothing-wise. All that black and white puzzled me :D

But I do think that the whole volume-trend (SS06-wise) is very Cristobal-inspired.

thank you the_ida
now i can really see the resemblance :flower:
it's great to have the fashion history in the forum too.
