i probably won't rip mine up to that degree but probably add a few holes here and there.

i checked this whole thread and didn't see anything about this, so...

i got a tweed jacket at a thrift store, and want to add some flowers to it, kind of in the Libertine style.

i remember seeing instructions in teen vogue on how to do this with sponge stamps and fabric paint, but of course i don't have it anymore. anyone know how to do this? I want to use black or red paint (the jacket is a brownish-green tweed).

kimair...just a page back chris gave exact directions on how he's doing all this great stenciling...just like libertine... :winkiss:

eoles...i have no idea what guage...i got the stuff at a surplus place...it's very random there...just whatever you find...i love digging around for buried treasure...good luck with your project... :flower:

? was this directed at me, cause I asked the question about the t-shirts...thanks for the tip though :flower:

But can you please explain what letting down/cutting off the hem means, I don't really understand that

oh is hem the part at the bottom of the tee...like the border with that line of fabric...like this pic:

oh...sorry matt.. my feeble mind mesed up...
i mean at the bottom of the t shirt...just open up the seam so that the raw edge is there(cut the thread on the inside)...or if you don't want to do that...you could just cut it off...

the hem of the t-shirt you posted is raw and so are the sleeves...do you see what i mean...?... ;) :flower:

yes...that is an excellent example you posted... ^_^ :flower:

I get it now. Thanks a lot softgrey!!! I think I'm gonna do this to the t-shirt then wear it tomorrow

I was inspired by this Johnny Rhys Meyers pic i saw and cut a small hole underneath the collar... I love shabby chic.

got to love ohmystars.net!!

Kimair:
If you want something more lasting, less fading and washable I suggest using fabric paint. Or you could buy this little bottle which you are supposed to add to the paint to make it a fabric paint. I think you can get them in the craft section in those big stores like.. wallmart? (I'm not too familiar with all those malls you have )

If you want better coverage then it's better to make several thin layers rather than one thick layer!

PM me if anyone has questions about stenciling :innocent:

FTB-Try splitting the hem around the bottom, sleeve and neck so that it rolls out and bot edges are exposed. Or just snip it in a few places. Cigarette burns could be kind of cool by just putting one out in a few spots. Have fun with it.

Yep, that's basically what I did...didn't mess with the neck though i'm kinda scared to do that. I did split the hem at the bottom and sleeve like that N(N) anti war t-shirt i posted, and cut a small hole underneath the collar. The bottom of the shirt has a few parts that are snipped. Thanks for the tips.

thanks softie :flower: got it! (thanks to purechris too!!)

and thanks crazy_k...definitely want something more lasting. I'm thinking about going and getting another jacket for cheap to practice. I really like the one I got from goodwill and don't want to mess that one up.

Thx runner :flower:

I wish I could read it. I just found 2 more sweaters with holes. I think I'm going to use one to make patches to cover the holes in the others....

I start from scratch and love sewing my own clothes, I designed my wedding gown and sewed part of that too (as per victorian tradition).
Now I am investing in a loom so I can create my own fabric :)
