Daphne Groeneveld

Yay for VP cover! Will definitely buy this issue, I mean Tom Ford and Daphne? High score!

People need to get their panties out of a twitch. She doesn't look like Lara Stone in this? Not even in general. Apart from the lips and the blonde hair, there isn't much in common for these two. Just that they're both awesome. It's getting old aswell as the discussion she might be too young.

Congrats to Daphne for scoring this cover alongside Tom. It's great and the cover is stunning and eye-catching. :D

She is 15, and she looks it...no amount of make up can hide her physical immaturity. She does not need to be on the cover of Vogue Paris, let alone magazine covers where she is sexed up and provocative. And don't even get me started on the fact that she's representing the Tom Ford issue. Since when has Tom Ford's vision ever lent itself to a 15-year-old girl? I don't understand.

Oh come on, it's about the image on the cover that they're look like each other.
I don't think you can say that, everyone has it's own opinion about Daphne, the cover, likes/dislikes, if she looks like Lara or not, ageproblems. To discuss that is also what fashionspot is for. Not everyone have to agree with each other, i don't think that would be reality. There come also new members who also have something to say etc.
You can easily stay out of this discussion if you think it's getting old, but you put yourself into it

That said, WilhelmE, i would love to talk about something else then only the cover or wishfull campaign thinking, but there isn't much at the moment right? I only know she was shooting something (don't know where) and just came back tuesdayevening. Also I agree with your comment to celebrate the cover.

Ah, how nice of you to already state that I can also say whatever I want. :flower:

No, in all seriousness. I get that people find her too young, but my problem with the always ongoing discussion about her age, she's not the first to have hit it big while being or looking so young. Body-wise, is her body looking that much younger than those of Anja Rubik and Freja Beha Erichsen?

I think it's great for Daphne Carine loves her so much. It's huge, no matter how old she is. She won't age sooner than she's doing now anyway.

I'm so sweet ;). I'll PM you, so we can move on :)

And I agree. Monika is also very young, but Daphne looks more innocent.

When I saw the cover this morning I knew I'd have to go through a plethora of comments by the evening - Daphne must definitely be among, if not the most controversy-inspiring new-ish face around right now.

I'd normally tend to agree with you Forrest, as I personally consider debates, or semblance of, far more gratifying than lovestruck comments echoing each others but the resemblance to Lara Stone discussion isn't anywhere close to being constructive, just plain waste of time and room if you ask me. As for the whole age argument I find it to be legitimate 'moral-wise' but unfair to Daphne.. Hailey and Kristina R. - for instance - are as young as she is yet I haven't seen any posts fret over that in their threads. Okay they may not have had their faces on/into Vogue Paris but both of them had eventful runway seasons, walking for so-called womanly brands, which apparently didn't cause people to react at all. Quite ironic imho.

Moving on - I find the cover arrestingly beautiful. First I thought it was fan-made (blame it on the amateur fonts) but the intriguing composition, the overall aura of mystery coming out of the covershot make it one of the best of the year aesthetically speaking. Here's to hoping Daphne's got a little something inside.

Best news since Fashion Week!!
I hate the lack of work after FWs and now it finally was filled!!

The Cover is gorgeous! an absolutely must have!!
I cant wait for the ed, if it's as good as the cover... awww, I'm going nuts!! :woot:

The creative minds of this industry have always liked to touch on the borders of innocence vs awareness that these talented young girls bring. I think you should not try to moralize it too much as it's not harmful or exploitative on the girl's part, it's just the image that people even to this day are quite shaken by... understandably so. After watching the videos with Daphne I understand what upsets people about seeing this young wide-eyed girl playing with a serious modeling career at the age of 15. Daphne comes off so young and unaware in this crazy fashion world. She's evidently talented in front of the camera and on a runway - a true gem -, but mentally she doesn't seem like she's ready for something like this while it's going so fast for her.
Regarding Hailey Clauson, she comes across more mature and self-assured in expressing herself so for us outside viewers there is less reason to "worry". She seems able to handle herself quite well. It's a different place to be in mentally and emotionally.
Just my 2 cents.

Sorry, but her VP cover is immense, she looks amazing....who cares about her age...Werk

Once the eyebrow bleach came out, the Larafication began, or at least they tried to shape Daphne into a Mert & Marcus automaton for whom Lara is the standardbearer. Having said that, there is a lot of excitement swirling around Daphne, and yes some of it is Lara 2.0ish, but I doubt if Daphne would have gotten the kinds of bookings that she has gotten and hobnobbed with the types of people that she has hobnobbed with if all she brought to the table was her resemblance to Mrs. Walliams. Given her age and that she is still fairly new, we don't know if Daphne is actually going to achieve top model status, but Lara-Daphne may be Gemma-Sasha 2.0.

The only Negative thing about Daphne starting so young is she may lose the interest of designers, photographers by the time she turns 18, for sure
she will achieve Monika's stardom even bigger, I wish Daphne will get longevity passing the age of 23 is really Gold to achieve. Many girls start young but only a few can pass in their 20s without slowing thier careers

Gemma ? Tanya ? Irina ?

Good Luck Daphne !

What's truly remarkable to me is how wise Miss Groeneveld's image has been used, specially in these fast times in the fashion industry - part of the reason why I think Daphne's special look is making an impact whenever she does something.

She's evidently talented in front of the camera and on a runway - a true gem -, but mentally she doesn't seem like she's ready for something like this while it's going so fast for her.
What's exactly going fast for her? The fact that she's been lately used only for top clients?... For me that's the reason why people get so biased with Daphne. We're talking about an image business regarding your mental condition - no pun intended! - and rare discoveries such as Daphne can easily be forgotten if they are not backed up by the strong tastemakers who can fully take far a model's potential. I'm talking about an intelligent use of a model's image, not exploitative and disposable, which is so common right now.

I'm somewhat glad of the controversy Daphne gets. That means she's been watched closely than say, your average newcomer who does 50+ shows one season and then quickly dropped & forgotten by the following one. A girl can quickly fade nowadays.

Wow, this thread. haha

First of, I didn't know she was 15 years old until just now, when someone mention it on the VP thread. Btw, congrats on her for getting the cover! Its a nice cover.

About the age thing, it doesn't bother me at all. I mean its up to her, its her life, and whatever makes her happy. Best of luck to her in her modeling career.

i've been slowly starting to like her and with this cover i think i can fully say i love her now! :D haha

Yep, now i don't care too much about her age, she is not doing inappropriate thing. I mean, so far i know (please tell me if i am wrong) she is not naked, in topless/pantless/sexy bikini shoots as other 15 (or even younger) years old model. I think she is just playing to be a woman, enjoying the moment and having fun! ;)

yeah, but Hailey is american. Sure she can express herself better it's her native tongue. okay, sure it not only has somthing to do with your language skills but also with your appearance and attitude.
But I think that the language makes a difference. Hailey knows how to say certain things and therefore is less shy in giving interviews while Daphne probably is a bit awed from the questions cos she sometimes maybe don't know how to answer, and i mean how in the way of expressing it in a foreign language.
