Cover story: The best bodies in the business
Meet our November cover girl: Daria Werbowy is one of fashion’s most in-demand faces, recently fronting campaigns for Ferragamo, Céline and Balmain. She’s the current spokeswoman for Lancôme, a gig some have referred to as “the holy grail of modelling”. Forbes has estimated she earned $4.5 million last year – a figure that landed Werbowy in an elite top 10 list alongside Gisele, Heidi, Kate and Adriana. So if she were to reveal that she employed a full-time hairstylist to tend her tresses at the snap of a finger or the buzz of an intercom, at any hour of any day, it would be easy to believe her.
But that’s not the Werbowy way. At 28, the stunning, cat-eyed Ukranian-Canadian boasts the sort of adventurous spirit and screw-it-all panache that’s too often lacking among her peers. In actual fact, she confesses to madison, Werbowy cuts her own hair. Furthermore, her beauty icon is not Liz or Audrey or Grace. It’s famously no-fuss feminist Gloria Steinem.
Plenty of models have famously fought addiction – to nicotine, alcohol, starvation, dangerous men… the list goes on. Werbowy, though, is hooked on something healthier: adrenaline. “I’m an outdoor person,” she reveals. “I love sailing, skateboarding, and snowboarding. I ride my bike around the city. Next, I would love to start rock climbing.” She likes to feel the burn, and it’s paying off beautifully: her body, already lithe and burnished thanks to some presumably ace genes, is a picture of good health. Just look at the results!
