If you wanted to have a real fairytale wedding, how would it look? The dress, designed by John Galliano, would be an off-the-shoulder white gown with a draped silk bodice adorned with delicate, pink silk roses and a vast tulle skirt sparkling with tiny sequins.
The lace veil, made by Stephen Jones, would fall into an endless train that fans out for metres at the altar. The gothic cathedral would be decorated with thousands of white roses and the ultra-chic reception would be at a stunning chateau.

This was the scene in Sauternes last weekend, when Delphine Arnault, the daughter of Bernard Arnault, the richest man in France and owner of the world's biggest luxury goods conglomerate, LVMH, married Alessandro Gancia. It's just as well that Jordan is tucked away safely on her secret honeymoon - she would be pea-green with envy.

Arnault, whose empire includes the fashion houses Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Pucci, Fendi and Celine, as well as champagne houses Veuve Clicquot, Dom Perignon and Moët & Chandon, was never going to host anything less than a picture-perfect wedding for his daughter.

The 30-year-old bride, who sits on the board of LVMH and is head of Christian Dior shoes, arrived with her father in a cream and black vintage Rolls-Royce. Her maid of honour, Laudomia Pucci Castellano (Emilio Pucci's daughter), broke free from the LVMH stable of designers, choosing a dress from Prada, while the bride's mother wore a lace Christian Dior suit and a wide-brimmed hat by Stephen Jones.

Guests at the wedding, held in Bazas cathedral, included John Galliano in his pantomime pirate look complete with black bandana, Karl Lagerfeld in signature black suit with alligator boots and Louis Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs.

While all this extravagance put recent high-profile British nuptials in the shade, we can take consolation from one small detail. With a halo of feathers around her head, Bernadette Chirac, the French President's wife, seemed to have been inspired by the newly stylish Duchess of Cornwall.

Of course she wore Dior! She works for Dior! She'd be a traitor to represent any other fashion house but the one Daddy owns and she works for! Seriously, whatelse could she wear but Dior?

I Love Delphine, she is one of my idols. She such a good role model. Her dress is beautiful. Does anyone else think she looks so much like Uma Thurman in these pics.

I know that Helene Arnault is Delphine's step mother so can someone tell me what happened to Bernard's first wife? No one ever mentions her.

2) if not, then it's probably because karl thinks arnault may someday buy a brand he's designing for!!!
