I don't know if anyone else has a secret passion for Winners (only in Canada I believe), but on March 8th, they're starting their new section called "The Runway at Winners" (http://www.winners.ca/en/events.asp). Designer fashions for a lower price! I'm very excited, I don't think there's anything better than clothing on sale... especially designer clothing. :woot:

You can see a list of the stores that will carry The Runway here --> http://www.winners.ca/en/runway_stores.pdf

I am also excited. I am going to check it out on Thursday.

ugh, it's happening at the one by my grandma's in Calgary but not where i'm at in Ontario......it's not happening in very many places....

I know.. I think maybe they'll probably try it out at their bigger locations, or the locations that are doing well as far as sales are concerned, and then if the line/section is a hit, they'll probably expand it to other stores.

I am in Vancouver and they are doing the runway thing at two locations near my house here. I went to both today. They have Pucci. Versace, Valentino, D&G, Hugo Boss, Diane Von Furstenburg, Pink Tartan, Taryn Rose, Vivian Tam, Cavalli, etc. They had signs advertising Miu Miu and Prada but I didn't see any. They also had Gucci and Chanel sunglasses, oh and Juicy. Some of it is ugly and dated, some of it was cute. I ended up buying a Ella Moss dress that will be great this summer. By the way, it was mayhem!!!

i'm impressed with the range of brands, but not the zoo scene. Is this just a one off or a continual thing? Does anyone know?

I *think* it is continual thing, but I hope the hype dies down, because at the downtown location it was way too crowded for me. When the crowds are that crazy it kinda' takes away from the fun of shopping.

Is Winners part of TJX (which has tjmaxx and tkmaxx)?

because tjmaxx in the US has been doing "runway at the maxx" for the last few months and this sounds very similar...

from what i've seen at tjmaxx the items are very hit or miss, the prices are still high for a lot of things but the selection of designer denim is good--and it's a continuous thing where they update their merchandise--you can also get a bunch of stuff on clearance (i bought a dolce & gabbana dress for $7 and my mother bought a dolce & gabbana suit for $30 marked down from the original tjmaxx proce of 699.99 :woot:)

if this is totally different then you can disregard everything i just said but i suspect it's something along those lines.. ^_^

I looked on the Winners website and they have all the TJX logos, as well as a special memo from them. (I think they had a security issue.. oh dear). But yeah, they're definitly related.. good eye!

oh good!

so what i posted before is probably valid...

from what i've seen there is some good stuff--every store carries different stuff for the most part i think...

the runway thing starts off in a select few stores then spreads to more stores after the initial release--i think they kind of phase into it

:flower:

I don't know if I like this idea or not, because you know everyone is just going to raid that specific department of the store, and these are already leftovers of the leftovers..
I've seen designer pieces at Winners in the past, like a Versace shirt and a wool GFF sweater, hidden amongst the endless Tommy Hilfiger and Nautica rejects. Now they'll be out there in the open..

I'm with Fashion Boi here. You used to get lucky at Winners by finding something designer amongst the masses of plain bland clothing. Now they are going to be in their own section and chaos will ensue. I haven't heard anything about this here and according to their list one in my city has the Runway thing. I wonder if people know about it and if I'll be able to swoop in. I'm surprised that Fortezza (member here) hasn't figured this one out. She always finds such great buys in Winners I thought she'd definately know about this news!

The 'designer' stuff that winners had before (and described above) wasn't really designer stuff though. It was either diffusion line or licensed products. The only thing ive ever been genuinely surprised to see is Abercrombie and Fitch there about 8 or 9 years ago when there was very little abercrombie in Canada (i mean people wearing it, there were certainly no stores). Other than that, it's all pretty standard.

I'm also in Vancouver and at the Winners in North Vancouver (Park Royal) I saw some pairs of Habitual jeans for only $80! I was so excited and then when I tried them on they didn't fit (even though they were in my size) and they were skinny jeans. SIGH. I hate when that happens. If only I were a little thinner :p But an awesome deal I'd say. My mom bought a pair of Habituals for full price just a few weeks ago but ended up returning them.

The one thing I hate about Winners is that it's like finding a needle in a haystack. You have to be really patient and willing to search a LONG time for stuff. I ended up buying a cute pair of cheap sunglasses and in the end my legs were killing me
