Designer's Paychecks

A friend of mine went to work for Gucci, with some years of experience in other companies, and she gets around 5000 euros/month...

Designers for labels like Fornarina, Diesel, Miss Sixty ecc gets from 1000 (yes it's so true!) euros-2000 euros a month...

:woot: Wooooww.. That's a lot. How did she get the job from Gucci?!

i honestly don't understand why one would care to know how much top designers make. it's unrealistic. most all of us here(who do pursue design as a career) will never see a million dollar pay check, unless they are tom ford, marc jacobs and the likes.

i'm personally interested in what starting salary are for working at different companies as a new designer. 40K a year is not a lot considering the fact that you'd have to live in an expensive city like new york or london or paris to even work as a designer. especially after taxes, you'll end up making hardly any money to get by with a 40K paycheck.

its not that everyone here is aspiring to make that much as a designer, but i just wanted to know how much different designers make so see how the corporation feels they're worth and how things work...

^By the way, were you referring to 40k as in £'s or $'s?

My friend is a designer for RL and she makes good...hmmm like $75,000-$80,000

I can ONLY imagine how a person gets a job on a house like Gucci :innocent:

RALPH'S BONUS: Ralph Lauren, chief executive officer of Polo Ralph Lauren, received a $15 million bonus for the year ended March 31, 2006, a 13 percent increase from last year's $13.3 million bonus, according to the company's proxy filing on Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Lauren's base salary of $1 million remained unchanged from a year ago. The ceo also received restricted stock valued at $4.3 million, or a 30.2 percent increase from the $3.3 million of restricted stock granted a year ago. In addition, there was no change in the 150,000 stock options he received this year from last year.

why does it matter?

I say we pay them as little as possible so that designers aren't motivated by a paycheck, almost in the way we do with presidents.

In a TV Report about Chanel (a few month ago) it said that Lagerfeld gets 1 million Euro for every Collection - so consider the 3 Collections every year and the number of years he`s with them...and that is just Chanel...no idea what he gets from Fendi and his own lines...

1 million? ARe yu serious. I'd demand at least 5 times that per collection for the work he does for chanel
