He's just 18, but I think he's the cutest thing ever. I'm glad he's going to be starring in the M. Night Shamalayan movie, The Last Airbender, with Jackson Rathbone.

Can't wait to see him at the Oscars w/Freida. They're just the cutest together.

Slumdog's Dev takes Hollywood in his stride

DEV PATEL one of the stars of Slumdog Millionaire - the favourite to win the best film
Oscar on Sunday - has been backwards and forwards between London and LA ever since the movie captivated audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival back inSeptember.

Dev was perfectly happy then to be wearing a suit he bought in the High Street in London. 'I was more than chuffed with River Island, and now everyone's throwing Armani, Burberry, Dior at me,' he says.

This week in LA every studio has courted him, producers want him, young women throw themselves at him - Sharon Stone even gave him a playful slap. At 18 he's the star of a Bafta-winning movie, developed at Film 4 in London, that is almost certain to clean up at the Oscars.
'I'm a kid from Rayners Lane, in Harrow,' he told me. 'I live near a council estate. Yet I've been swept along on this Slumdog tidal wave.
'I've met Anne Hathaway, Drew Barrymore, Kate Winslet, Sharon Stone and Penelope Cruz. Clint Eastwood said "Hi", Mark Wahlberg said he wanted to work with me andQuincy Jones - Quincy bloody Jones! - shook my hand and he didn't want to let go. 'I used to go naked and take pills when I was in Skins on television; now my first film could win the Oscar,' he said breathlessly.

He's incredulous because his great success just doesn't tally with his expectation of his life. He said that working with Slumdog's director Danny Boyle made him take acting seriously and gave him confidence. The thing I like about Dev, having observed him closely these past few months, is how down-to-earth he has remained. As Boyle noted, if he hadn't been so grounded and close to his family, the whole experience could have screwed him up. 'The good thing right now is that my home life hasn't changed that much,' Dev told me. 'I'm still in the same home I grew up in, still have the same friends. I've got a little box room at home, and if I stretch my arms I can touch each wall sidewise. It's full of Bruce Lee posters, and my bedsheets have got all these Chinese numbers on them.

'It's like I live in two different worlds. I jump on the Metropoliton Line in London and I jump in limos in LA.'
But he modestly protests: 'There's nothing star quality about me: I'm lanky, I've got big ears, I'm not the best-looking guy, nor the cleverest. But if I can do it, others can.' A pupil from his old school summed it up perfectly when he told Dev: 'You know what, dude? You're opening doors.' He flies directly from LA next week to shoot his first post-Slumdog movie M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender in Greenland where Dev will display his love of martial arts. There are a lot of action scenes and it's primarily for a young audience.
He's being courted to be in other pictures, but, for now, he's just going to enjoy the crazy Oscar parties, the cocktails and the canapes.

On a show airing Friday, February 20th, “Slumdog Millionaire” stars Dev Patel and Freida Pinto stop by “The Tyra Banks Show” to discuss their Oscar nominated film and newfound fame.

Freida, 24, revealed she is a huge “America’s Next Top Model” fan and even has an autographed photograph of Tyra hanging in her bedroom at home in India.
“I was a big, big, big Tyra banks admirer. So I had written an email to you [Tyra], to your website telling you how much I loved what you were doing and I would love to come out here and just get trained by you and then two weeks later I got a signed photograph of Tyra Banks! It was like the little kid who jumps in the cesspool and gets what he wants!”
Dev, the 18-year-old star of “Slumdog Millionaire,” admitted the whole experience has been surreal.
“Not in my wildest dreams. It’s been so surreal. I mean I’m 18 years old...I’ve been watching all these stars on TV… and then I’m actually there shaking Forest Whittaker’s hand, Kate Winslet’s, my first love.
Patel also admitted he was so in awe of Leonardo DiCaprio he shook his hand twice. That's the least of what I would do if I ever met Leo. Le Sigh!!!
“I went up to him, ‘Hello Leo’ shook his hand and I was so content with that, I went back again and shook it again.”
Patel also revealed someone tried to sell him a bootleg copy of “Slumdog Millionaire.”
“Someone tried to sell me a pirate copy of my film when I was having my haircut. I was having a haircut and this little lady came in, Slumdog?...I was like, ‘No, I’ve seen it.’

London native Dev Patel, 18, and Mumbai-born model Freida Pinto, 24, have captured hearts the world over for their portrayal of Jamal and Latika, sweethearts whose love flourishes in the slums of India in Slumdog Millionaire.

As the two prepare for their date with Oscar on Feb. 22 (the film is nominated for 10 Academy Awards), here's some inside scoop on the young stars of the movie sensation.

1. They have beginners' luck
Patel and Pinto are movie newcomers; Slumdog is the first film for both. "It was actually the first film script I've ever read," says Patel, who had starred in the U.K. TV series Skins. "My track record's really spoiled now."

2. They had different first impressions
"She's absolutely stunning," Patel thought when he first met his costar. But now he can dish about the real Freida (whom he calls a "wicked buddy":( "She's super funny. In [public] she's very gracious. But she's quite the goof, she can poke fun at herself. And if someone dishes something out to her, she can give as good as she gets. She's not shy."

And Patel? "When I met him for the first time I was like, 'Oh, my god, he's a kid!' " Pinto recalls. "But I realized during the shooting of the film that as much as this boy is really funny and goofy, there's this really mature, sensitive side to him as well."

3. They have celebrity crushes
All the hoopla has brought Pinto face-to-face with her childhood crush, Leonardo DiCaprio. "In the eighth or ninth grade, I had a scrapbook with his face on it," she admits. "I [recently] met him at the Palm Springs Film Festival. It was fantastic. It was a crush back then; now it's just admiration for a fabulous actor."

For his part, Patel is partial to Hollywood beauties like Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson, and – crushes aside – hopes he gets to meet Will Smith. "He's one of my idols."

4. They have an Angelina connection
Irrfan Khan, the Indian megastar who plays the police inspector investigating Jamal's game show success, costarred with Jolie in A Mighty Heart. Patel used the connection on a red carpet. "I was like, 'Irrfan, make a beeline for Angelina! Tell her I want to say hi!' And he did," says Patel. "I didn't say much. I was just more looking in awe at Angelina Jolie ... I think she said 'great film' or something like that. It was a blur."

5. They still haven't chosen Oscar dates
Patel will probably take "my mum [Anita, an elder care worker]. She's my good luck charm." Pinto (who, like Patel, is single) is still deciding. "My mother [Sylvia, a school principal] can't really take a break because it's during board examinations." Pinto may not know who will escort her, but she's already prepping for the red-carpet walk. "I'm clumsy, so that's when I have to breathe, control, and just walk as straight as possible."

Also, all the kids from Slumdog are supposed to be at the awards ceremony! They were finally able to get visas. Can't wait to see them on the red carpet. They must be so excited!
