Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? – Dev Patel and Danny Boyle, that's who
Slumdog Millionaire star and director in talks to appear on a special edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire to raise money for charity that helps street kids the world over.
It was, perhaps, inevitable. Following
Slumdog Millionaire's eight-Oscar haul on Sunday, life is to imitate art as star Dev Patel is in talks to appear on the real-life version of the show at the centre of the film, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

In the film, Patel plays Mumbai street kid Jamal who finds himself one question away from winning the Indian version of the quizshow. Now, according to the Sun, the 18-year-old actor is being lined up to compete in the ITV1 programme, along with director
Danny Boyle, to raise money for Railway Children, a UK-based charity that helps children living rough all over the world. Both shows were created by the TV company Celador, which co-produced Boyle's rollicking crowdpleaser.
Patel's co-star Freida Pinto may also appear as the "phone a friend" lifeline option on the show, which would be presented by long-running presenter Chris Tarrant, the Sun reports.
A spokeswoman for Celador told the newspaper: "We were approached by Railway Children about doing the special and we think it would be fantastic. Danny and Dev would play together, as with all our celebrity specials, but filming depends on their availability."
Meanwhile, the movie's success continues to change the lives of those connected to it: after fillips for
Pinto and the
film's child stars, fortune is about to smile on Danny Boyle himself – he is to be
made a freeman of his Lancashire home town of Radcliffe in Bury, Greater Manchester.
Boyle, 52, namechecked Radcliffe's St Mary's Social Club when he bounced up to the stage, Tigger-style, to accept his Oscar for best director. According to the Manchester Evening News, he is expected to return to Radcliffe this weekend and has promised to bring his statuette to the club where he used to drink lemonade with his father as a boy.
Councillor Peter Ashworth, the mayor of Bury, told the council that he was "delighted to learn of Danny Boyle's success at the
Oscars".
He said: "This is a most exceptional achievement and I have conveyed to Mr Boyle the council's and the borough's congratulations and good wishes."
